Patio Im-Perfect

Have you noticed those pesky soy aphids on your evening walks lately? Those little critters are taking the fun out of being outdoors in the afternoons and evenings!  It's funny that such little creatures can drive us to distraction. Our patio lovers are complaining as well and the little consolation we have to offer is a comfortable seat inside. Don't let these critters put you off, we will reclaim our outside spaces soon!

If you are an ice cream and chocolate lover, you know the feeling of eating a huge sundae of rich vanilla ice cream lavished with hot fudge and real whipped cream.

If you are a wine enthusiast, a wine loaded with opulent, even unctuous layers of fruit, with a huge bouquet, and a plump, luxurious texture can be said to be decadent.

Wine 102: Wine Evaluation & Terminology
Sunday, September 27th
4:00 - 6:00pm
Our Price: $20/person

Do you read tasting notes and wonder how they can be so specific?  Do you want to be able to put into words what you taste? If so, this seminar is for you! Join us at Sun Singer as we continue to de-mystify the world of wine. Wine 102 will show you the tasting process and help you develop a style of wine talk.

We'll expand on the basic wine terminology and flavor components of wine taught in Wine 101.  We will discuss how wines are rated and explain several systems.  There will be handouts on a wine rating system and a listing of wine words.  The final part of the seminar will focus on developing your own personal wine language.

We strongly suggest that you have previously attended  Sun Singer's Wine 101.  Wine 102 will assume  a basic knowledge  of  wine varietals, their characteristics and basic tasting technique.

New This Week
@ The Wine Bar

New wines September 17th
at the Sun Singer Wine Bar.

Always changing, always
something new to try!

Gini Soave Classico '08,
Veneto, Italy

Made entirely from Garganega, planted in some of the best hillside sites of the appellation. This wine is concentrated, crisp and minerally, with enticing aromatic character.

San Pietro Pinot Grigio '08, Alto Aldige, Italy
Beautiful tropical fruit notes with a note of honey.
Well balanced acidity finishing crisp and clean.

Ken Forrester Chenin Blanc '07, South Africa
Barrel fermented, full, ripe, rich, full bodied. Bursts with dried apricots and pineapple, with a hint of vanilla and lovely typical Chenin honey notes on a long lasting finish.

Dry Creek Merlot '05, Dry Creek Valley, California
An expansive tapestry revealing black cherry, cassis, and dark chocolate, layered with chewy tannins. Textured and rich with a softer edge that expresses tremendous length and balance.

Chateau Tour de Boyrin '07, Graves, France
Beautiful herbal hints surround the dark fruit flavors of this rich, soft wine. Elegance and balanced, the wine finishes
with flavors of fruit, herbs and smoke.

Qupe Los Olivos Cuvee '06, Santa Ynez, California
Great balance between elegance, intensity, ripeness and acidity. The aromas show wild cherry, raspberry, licorice, and classic Los Olivos "garrigue" or mixed dried herbs.

Pumpkin CrunchFall Has Flavor:
How Sweet It Is!
We've got our Fall supply of Pumpkin Crunch and Pumpkin Pretzels from The South Bend Chocolate Company. Pumpkin Crunch is an unforgettable blend of carmel corn, chocolate, almonds, pumpkin and cinnamon. Pumpkin Pretzels are mini pretzels covered in pumpkin spiced chocolate and stripped in white chocolate. A perfect combination of salty and sweet.

This year Jackie has found something new to satisfy your sweet tooth. Angelic Gourmet is a women owned and operated cottage industry nestled in the picturesque foothills of the Naples Valley in Upstate New York. For 14 years they have been specializing in fresh and fun handmade confections. The signature item of the company is the Decadent DippersŪ, two pretzels joined together as one, dipped in fanciful chocolates and lavishly topped with mounds of fresh fruit, nuts, toffee's, etc. Each is individually wrapped with a hang tag and satin ribbon. Truly a 'one of a kind' item upon it's debut in the fall of 1995, it has since become a cherished and sought after specialty confection.
Mega Mudslide
Decadent Dippers 'Mega Mudslide'

Have a WaterMark Day!

WaterMark

WATERMARK Cabernets
Napa Valley, California

You see it here first.  This is a winery that I have been trying to bring in to the state for two years now.  Finally we have their wines in stock.

Watermark is a small boutique winery run by long time Napa Vintner Phil Steinschriber focusing entirely on Cabernet Sauvignon.  Phil makes a Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon as well as a Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon. Their wines have good acidity and backbone structure and will age nicely for a number of years. Their first vintage was in 2004 and production is tiny at merely several hundred cases of each wine.

The Watermark wines are layered and complex and need we mention available at much less the cost then the Diamond Creek Vineyard wines. Phil's wines are all hand produced.

Now these are a pair of wines worth getting your hands on!
