June Already! Wow! We can't believe that May is already passed. Between U of I Graduation and the Memorial Day holiday the month sped away. It's time to get in the summer routine or that will be gone just as quickly. During June, Brian Bowman will be offering both Wine 101 and Wine 102 classes. To help you feel inspired, we're offering a $5 discount when you register for both June classes as a package. Just think, while June is busting out all over you can exponentially increase your wine knowledge and pleasure. Summer looks just a bit sweeter now.
Father's Day is a traditional part of June festivities. Sun Singer has lots of goodies to tickle Dad's fancy and make you look like a real hero. While that new set of golf clubs might be appreciated, a selection of his favorite whiskey or scotch and a tasting glass to accompany can go along way without the expensive price tag. A selection of fun beers from the country's best microbreweries or a bottle or two of highly sophisticated wine that shows your good taste and his. Or, if you're truly undecided a Sun Singer Gift Card is always appreciated and who knows, he might take you out to dinner! Whatever you decide, just remember that Dad is a pretty impressive guy and your choice at Sun Singer is sure to impress him.
You'll Love Torrontes! If you like muscat, especially its seductive aroma of exotic fruits and heady white flowers, try its Argentinian soul mate: torrontes. Like muscat, the torrontes grape produces wines that are ntensely aromatic and high in acidity. Grown at extremely high elevations in Argentina's Cafayate region, it is the country's most widely planted white grape. Scientists at the University of California at Davis discovered that torrontes is a cross between muscat of Alexandria and criolla chica, one strain of the grape known as mission n California. In the world of grape genetics, the 'child' grape does not necessarily mirror the characteristics of its tow parents; however, in this case, torrontes did seem to inherit the traits of at least one onf its predecessors. While it's not quite as effusive as muscat of Alexandria, one sniff of a torrontes will definitely make you believe there's a muscat nearby.
We look forward to you joining us soon.
Best Wishes,
Mark, Jackie & the Sun Singer Staff

Wine 101: An Introduction
Sunday, June 14th 4:00 - 6:00pm Our Price: $20/person
Join us at Sun Singer as we
de-mystify the world of wine. Wine 101 will introduce you to the everyday pleasures of wine.
We will begin this interactive class by discussing the various approaches to wine. We'll cover some of the basic wine terminology and flavor components of wine. We'll also talk about where wine comes from, how it is made and the characteristics of the 7 basic wine grape varieties as well as tasting the wines.
Class is scheduled to last 2 hours. However, the Question & Answer time at the end of the prepared class has been known to last an additional hour as Brian likes to answer all of the participants' questions.
After this introduction you'll feel more comfortable with the 'language' of wine, ordering wine in a restaurant and how to explain what you want from a wine when choosing one in the store. With any luck you'll be on the road to a lifetime of enjoyment in a world of wine!

Sparkling Suggestions on a Budget
Whether
it's a barbecue or a brunch for a large group of friends and you want
to serve sparkling without spending an arm and a leg consider two
economical favorites: cava and Cremant de Bourgogne. Cava
is a sparkling wine from the Penedes region of Spain. It is made in
the traditional Champagne method, but from the local grape varieties
macabeo, xarel-lo and parellada. A brut or extra brut cava is a good
choice for a large group - you can expect crisp, citrusy fruit with a
touch of minerality and earthiness.
Or try a Cremant de Bourgogne from
Burgundy, France made from chardonnay and pinot noir grapes and
featuring nice apple fruit and just baked bread flavors. The best part
of these wine? The price. Many examples range from $9 to $17 a bottle.
Both
cava and Cremant de Bourgogne are also great for making Kir royale
cocltails. Just add a teaspoon of cold creme de cassis to each glass
of bubbly and turn a party into a festival!

HANGAR ONE
Spiced Pear Vodka
Very Limited!!!
This is a limited edition, seasonal bottling from one of our favorite vodka producers, Hangar One. The Bartlett pears for this vodka come from Colorado's high dessert, they are small and fragrant becoming even more so when they're macerated and distilled on a small copper still. The result is a vodka that's clean, with focused pear fruit aromas and a subtle pear flavor with a hint of clove spice. Try it chilled for a festive martini.
