Sun Singer News

Our Patio is open for Lunch & Dinner Daily - weather permitting.
In Brief

Final Graduation Cheer!
After the big blow last week, our Graduates had a wonderful weekend
for Commencement with their friends and family.  'Commencement' seems like a funny way to describe the ceremony recognizing the completion of a college or university degree. It's like 'You mean this is just the beginning? What have I been doing for the last four years?' Sun Singer wants to again congratulate departing seniors on their achievements. We also want to invite you back anytime to share the camaraderie you've treasured.  By the way, if you have a passion for wine and you're not leaving town right away, maybe you'd like to consider part-time sales at Sun Singer. Give us a call.

Angels and Demons!
There is a paradise known as Central Illinois and the last two days has shown just what a paradise it can be! These are definitely days to be enjoy patio pleasures and that idea is shared by the majority of our guests with outdoor tables a scarce commodity - steadily filled and quickly refilled. But be warned with the common Midwestern stoicism of one of our regular customers "In this part of the country Spring usually lasts about two days!" We guess that means that 'Time's up - Summer must be here'.  But even as we eventually surrender to the inevitable heat and humidity, there's rarely a better way to spend an hour than taking in a sunset from the Sun Singer patio.  You're always invited!

Stick Around - Summer Menu Debuts!

Sun Singer has a treat for everyone who's staying close-by.  Yesterday
our chef Sherry Casillas unveiled her new and refreshing menu updates as we swing into summer.  To honor the season, Sherry has  made changes to every category on the menu, and we'd like to invite you to come and enjoy our new lighter and brighter summer flavors. Make a date to stop by as we usher in these seasonaly sensational new additions in the Wine Bar & Cafe!

Have a great Memorial Day weekend!  Sun Singer will be open normal hours throughout the weekend and on Memorial Day Monday.

Best Wishes,

Mark, Jackie & the Sun Singer Staff

Weekly Wine Update

Beginning Thursday we'll be updating our wines available at our Wine Bar.  This is going to be a 'Red' week with these additions:

Pali Pinot Noir Bluffs '07
Russian River, California
Intense, with firm, mineral, sage and dusty berry fruit that's still closed and tight, though it comes into better focus on the finish, where the flavors fold together.

Terrazas Malbec Reserva '06,
Mendoza, Argentina

A nose of raspberry, red currant and sweet plum with hints of vanilla and caramel. Magnificent structure and beautifully integrated tannins make it lively and strong.

Woop Woop 'The Black Chook' Shiraz-Viognier '07, S. Australia
Full bodied, rich and powerful offering, this wine is made complex by the ferminity of its perfumed nose, concentrated deep purple ruby colour, fine grained, balanced tannins and
a sweet juicy palate.

Von Strasser Cabernet Sauvignon '06
Diamond Mountain-Napa Valley, California
A big boy that grew up, rich and round showing excellent power of black fruit, sweet oak and savory earth. Great finesse!

Taste these wines at the Wine Bar by the glass or by the bottle. Join us soon for the new tastes of summer!

Too Politically Sensitive
by local author Michale Callahan will be published on May 18, 2009. Guests will have a chance to meet the author, have their copy of the novel personalized and receive one complimentary glass of wine. If you do not have a copy of the book, don't worry copies will be available for purchase the day of the event.

About The Book
In a state as rich in political corruption as Illinois, it's more of a reality than a question. This true story starts with a murder in a small town and the wrongful conviction of two men, but quickly escalates into a conspiracy of deceit, hypocrisy, misconduct, and cover-up by one of the most corrupt states in the United States.

This true story is about his fight to search for the truth, no matter where it may lead, to search for the real killers and help free the two innocent men he learned were railroaded into prison. As the story unfolds it becomes his and every citizen's worst nightmare when any crime is deemed "too politically sensitive" instead of justice for the victims. Callahan's fight continued with his personal battle against a corrupt and powerful state that was more interested in covering up the scandal and silencing its employees than seeking justice. His battle led to the United States Supreme Court, where he continues to fight for his and every American's First Amendment protection, the freedom of speech.
