Past Weekend in Review
Despite a few traffic delays last Saturday with the first Illinois Marathon the race brought a great spirit to the twin cities for the weekend.  The weather could not have been more perfect for the race and we had a number of marathoners who came in with their support crews to 'rehydrate'. Surprising that Sun Singer wasn't even on the race course!

Goin' South
We also had a good time this past weekend as Mark Yarbrough, proud Sun Singer owner, stepped in to host our Sensational Saturday tasting.  He was a very busy boy for the afternoon, and while the tasting was focused toward the Easter holiday, Mark couldn't resist expanding the tasting with a few additional selections from the Wine Bar.  If you missed him last Saturday, you can look forward to seeing Mark this Saturday, April 18th as he hosts Tour Chile with Mark!  The Yarbrough family has recently been to the 'End of the World' and will be delighted to share some of their adventures of travel and wine. You can read the details below, but be sure to join us for lunch and some travel and tasting fun.

Boneyard Arts Festival & U of I Mom's Weekend
While Sun Singer isn't participating directly in the festival, we invite you to stop by on your way to and from events this weekend. There's no doubt this will be a busy weekend, but we welcome you to join the fun. April 18th and 19th, we'll be invaded with Moms and Daughters for the yearly U of I Mom's Weekend.  Watch out Champaign-Urbana! These Moms have a style all their own and the stamina to have a good time!  Remembering from last year, Sun Singer was packed with new faces Saturday afternoon crowding out our regulars until later in the evening.

Join us soon  for more good times at  Sun Singer!

Best Wishes,

Mark, Jackie & the Sun Singer Staff

We like to refer to grenache as the pinot noir of the foothills. A properly made grenache has a lot of the same characteristics as pinot noir - the fruitiness you typically find in a pinot and a little of its earthiness.

Wine 102: Wine Evaluation & Terminology
Sunday, April 19th
4:00 - 6:00pm
Our Price: $20/person

Do you read tasting notes and wonder how they can be so specific?  Do you want to be able to put into words what you taste? If so, this seminar is for you! Join us at Sun Singer as we continue to de-mystify the world of wine. Wine 102 will show you the tasting process and help you develop a style of wine talk.

We'll expand on the basic wine terminology and flavor components of wine taught in Wine 101.  We will discuss how wines are rated and explain several systems.  There will be handouts on a wine rating system and a listing of wine words.  The final part of the seminar will focus on developing your own personal wine language.

We strongly suggest that you have previously attended  Sun Singer's Wine 101.  Wine 102 will assume  a basic knowledge  of  wine varietals, their characteristics and basic tasting technique.

At Cono Sur they like doing things the natural way. That's why in July 2007 they became the first winery in the world to obtain CarbonNeutral® delivery status. This means that the CO2 emissions from the shipping of their products have been measured and balanced to net zero through high quality Greenhouse Gas Emissions reduction projects. Through the CarbonNeutral Company they support mainly renewable energy programs, particularly a wind energy project.
