Sun Singer News

In Brief

Worth a Thousand Words
WOW! What a great tribute to St. Patrick. Can you believe that it's going to be 70+ degrees outside today!  It's a strange sensation, but with the sunny skies and modest temperatures of late, it's easy to imagine that winter was just in our imaginations. We do invite you to join us on the patio today which we will have open and in full force. Please understand that this is a one day offer as temperatures look like they'll be resuming more seasonal patterns in the upcoming week.

Meatless Options for Lent

Last Friday was the first Friday during the season of Lent.  I fielded a question from one of our regular guests regarding what meatless dining options we offer on the menu.  The thought occurs - how many of you have the same question?

So, for our friends who are fasting from meat on Fridays during this season of Lent we wanted to spotlight several of our meatless menu items.

 Crab Cakes
CrabCakes
Made from scratch and served over black bean salsa with a mango glaze.

Salmon Cakes
Made from scratch and served over mixed greens with an herbed vinaigrette.

3 Cheese Ravioli
Ravioli stuffed with 3 Italian cheeses, breaded and baked. Served with marinara.

Grilled Cheese Supreme
Danish Fontina and Fiscalini cheddar cheeses, granny smith apples and fig jam on Challah bread

These are just a few of the more popular non-meat items on our menu.  The majority of our wonderful salads are also meatless or can be made so.  Find the entire menu here on our website.

Wine 101: An Introduction
Sunday, April 5th
4:00 - 6:00pm
Our Price: $20/person

Do you read Wine for Dummies late at night off in a dark corner? Do you want to try Merlot, but you're afraid to ask? If so, this seminar is for you! Join us at Sun Singer as we de-mystify the world of wine. Wine 101 will introduce you to the everyday pleasures of wine.

We'll be covering basic wine varieties and their characteristics, along with how to taste and talk about wine. We'll cover some of the basic wine terminology and flavor components of wine. We'll also talk about 'when wine goes bad.' After this introduction you'll feel more comfortable with the 'language' of wine, ordering wine in a restaurant and how to explain what you want from a wine when choosing one in the store. With any luck you'll be on the road to a lifetime of enjoyment in a world of wine!

Wine of the Week:
Heinrich Zweigelt

The Heinrich Zweigelt has been a hot, little seller in the Cafe over the past few weeks.  It's popularity has surprised us for being rather obscure in variety and origin.  We'll be featuring the zweigelt through the upcoming week and we welcome you to stop by for a glass.

If you like zinfandel, but wish that producers would turn the alcohol down a notch, then the Austrian (no, not Australian) red grape variety zweigelt is for you.  Zweigelt (pronounced ZVY-gelt) is like zin's more elegant sister.  The wines are juicy, inky, spicy and rich, like zinfandels, but they have a gracious, more refined character.  Red wines from Austria are now coming into the United States and are generating a lot of excitement. Good zweigelt, like the Heinrich, is worth your time to try a glass - or two!

This see-through aerator allows your reds or whites to breathe instantly. The Vinturi Wine Aerator results are a better bouquet, enhanced flavor, and a smoother finish.

Best of Ireland
Midleton Irish Whiskey
The most exclusive and celebrated whiskey ever produced in Ireland, the home of whiskey. Midleton Very Rare is blended from a number of 12-21 year old triple distilled whiskies.

Each year it is slightly different. Always elegant and refined of course, but also individual. The first taste suggests honey and fruits, gently roasted almonds. It is incredibly smooth with a long finish. Midleton Very Rare is aged just perfectly.
