Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Please receive all of the good wishes and blessings from your brothers and sisters in Christ ministering in Vida Y Esperanza Nebaj, Guatemala. Thank you for all of your love and care  and continue to pray for us that God would be honored in all that we do. Please remember, as you pray for us, that our ministry in medical missions is not all about medicine but that is is also about the medicine for the soul, Jesus Christ.

Yours In Christ,
The Medical Missions team at Vida Y Esperanza
Greetings!

Nebaj 0910-02Carolina and I greet you in the name of our Savior, Jesus Christ and thank you for your love and support.  We have been blessed by many good things this year and thank God for them.  Recently, through the Lords blessing we have been able to provide our staff with a special benefit that will allow them  free access to Guatemalan recreational parks where they can take their families for swimming, camping, picnicking, and games. This may sound like a small thing to you but it is a great accomplishment for us to provide this benefit for our staff. We very much appreciate our dedicated staff.  We are praying that for the end of this year, we all as workers can go together on a trip for fun to increase the relationships within our ministry.  Last year we had a trip planned for all of the staff but because of a complication that Carolina had with her pregnancy it was cancelled.  Our staff, in their generosity and concern for us, asked us to use the funds to help pay for the extra medical care that Carolina needed at that time.We were humbled by their generosity and are praying that we can provide that special trip for them this year.

Another blessing from the Lord this year was the long awaited arrival of a team of electrical contractors from Tampa, Florida led by Mark Mazur. Their team had been scheduled to come to Nebaj nearly 2 years before but because of some civil unrest in Nebaj their team was cancelled three weeks before their visit. We were so excited when they rescheduled their visit for this year as our building was in serious need of electrical repairs and updating.

MVI Electrical Team goes to the Nebaj "Hospialito"

by Mark Mazur

Our team was a specialty team with expertise in electrical construction and was made up of electricians, electrical contractors and a coupled of folks that had good general mechanical skills. Our group had been on various short term mission trips over the last five years and worked on various projects.

Our trip to Nebaj had a very specific set of goals based on the needs at the hospital that were identified by Dr.Juan Pablo Noriega.  For this trip, our team did all of their own fund raising and paid for all of the material necessary to complete the project. There was a great deal of work that needed to be done including improving the lighting throughout the facility, adding security lighting on the outside of the building, adding electrical outlets, installing specific power receptacles for various pieces of lab equipment, increasing the number of generator circuits(for power outage situations) and generally improving the overall quality of the electrical system in the hospital.  While the list initially seemed insurmountable to the team, they ended up accomplishing everything on the list and still had time to work on a few other unscheduled projects.

There was a special chemistry on the Nebaj trip that can only be achieved by being a group of single minded, brothers in Christ, with a common goal.  The Team all felt there was a real magic going on.  We all know what that was.  It was the Lord working through the Team members.

The Team is deeply appreciative of the people that helped to host and facilitate their trip.  Randy Purcell was effortless in his work to get everyone where they had to be and when they had to be there, along with continually watching over the well being of the group as the Team moved through various cities and villages (including Guatemala City).    Juan Pablo and his wife, Carolyna were also wonderful host.  They are so dedicated to their work and the people of Nebaj, that it was inspiring for the Team to be around them.

As always is the case, our team returned to the US feeling totally humbled and knowing that they received and learned more from the experience than they gave in their efforts of work.
