The sun keeps shining and I think I have spent more money on sunscreen  this summer than ever before!
This e-newsletter provides information and resources on the recent dilemmas in the media regarding sunscreen. Since reading this information, I have taken the time to read the ingredients! Also, this week we give you details on the benefits of cycling and more news of what Performance is up to in the community.

Essential Tips About Sunscreen
From the Environmental Working Groups (EWG's) Guide
*Make sure your sunscreen provides broad-spectrum protection. *Stick to SPF 15-50+ to avoid being mislead. Pick a product based on your own skin, time planned outside, shade and cloud cover. *Avoid vitamin A-laced sunscreens listed as "retinyl palmitate" on the ingredient label (new government data shows lesions and tumors develop sooner on skin laced with vitamin A).
*Avoid the sunscreen chemical oxybenzone, a synthetic estrogen that penetrates the skin and contaminates the body. *Look for active ingredients zinc, titanium, avobenzone or Mexoryl SX which protect the body but staying on the skin and not penetrating into the body.
*Skip sunscreens with insect repellent; if you need bug spray, buy it separately and apply it first. *Sprays and powders cloud the air with tiny particles that may not be safe to breathe. Choose creams instead.
*Reapply often because sunscreen chemicals break apart in the sun, wash off in water, and rub off on towels and clothing.

Bicycling Keeps off the Pounds A new study says bicycling for exercise may help women control their weight during their 30s and 40s.The findings are based on a study where 116,608 female nurses periodically filled out questionnaires about their health, weight, diet and behavior. The analysis, published in the June 28 issue of Archives of Internal Medicine, found that women who increased physical activities like brisk walking and bicycling by 30 minutes a day maintained their weight and even lost a few pounds, whereas those whose exercise was slow walking did not lose any weight. In addition, women who decreased their bicycling time from more than 15 minutes a day to less than 15 minutes gained about four-and-a-half pounds on average.

Vitamins for Kids
 This month, Performance Physical Therapy is collecting children's vitamins. If you would like to make a donation, drop off kids' vitamins to any PPT location.These will be taken on the next Brigade to Guachi, which is scheduled for late July.
