Exercise for Osteoporosis

It is widely accepted that exercise is important to prevent and decrease the risks associated with Osteoporosis.  Weight-bearing Osteoporosisand muscle-strengthening exercise build bone density and help slow bone loss. Balance and posture exercises help decrease the risk of falls and broken bones.
The National Osteoporosis Foundation recommends 30 minutes of weight-bearing exercise on most days. Walking, dancing and gardening are all weight-bearing activities. Strengthening exercises of the major muscle groups are recommended 2 to 3 times a week. These can be done with free weights, weight machines, elastic exercise bands, or actual body weights.
