Hey   !

We had a beautiful summer and by now many of you have started back at school and college (Yay! Boo!). I had a very busy summer! I visited family and had a baby. Yes, my husband, Kevin and I welcomed Baby Zora to our family. Big Sis, Dee Dee was very happy to have a little sister. So, that's why I needed to take a brief hiatus from this newsletter. But, I am back on the grind and will continue to share what's good in New York City!!

In this issue, we'll give you some fashion tips for Fall. It's easy to stay on trend and on budget. Take some cues from the big fashion houses and translate them into a style that is all your own.

I am very excited to cover the Restoration Rocks! event again in Brooklyn, NY tomorrow. It will feature one of my fave hip-hop artists, MC Lyte. Be sure to visit the Double Dutch website for a recap of the event.

It is also the season for guilty pleasure with reality shows. The Basketball Wives of LA has aired and the Real Housewives of Atlanta (RHOA) will be starting soon. So please go to the Double Dutch Magazine website to give feedback on the shows.

If you're looking for something to do next weekend, the Target First Saturdays is at the Brooklyn Museum. You'll see some great art like the new exhibit featuring the dynamic art of Brooklyn artist, Mickalene Thomas . The Fall season is a fun time to go out and enjoy the city before it gets too cold. Get a pick me up this weekend by watching the Gangnam Style video by Psy.

Peace!

Breast Cancer Awareness

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. You may or may not have been affected by this disease. I lost a good friend to breast cancer a few years ago. This disease can surface even if you are healthy or if you don't have a family history of the disease. You may not be personally affected, but you can still do your part.

Here are some ways that you can participate:
  • Make those around you aware of the signs.
  • Encourage loved ones to get mammograms.
  • Donate to cancer organizations like the American Cancer Society.
  • Support organizations like Where There's A Need who give those with cancer a chance to regain their self-esteem by providing scarves and wigs.
