Dear , this photo arrived recently and it is an opportunity to tie up some loose ends. My now annual competition never seems quite wrapped until the photo arrives with the recipient is glowing.  So, here is the picture that was the winning painting last March . You might remember that I had an competition asking for a sparkling comment or suggestion?  

 

The winner was Vanda Carter, from London and she is seen here on the right with her family and the painting she won. 

 

 

Of course I didn't waste any time posting the painting off, and Vanda was very excited when it arrived on St Patrick's Day.
 

 

She wrote 

"La fheile Padraig sona! 

Like many Londoners, she has of course, an Irish Great Granny. 

"I love it. It looks lighter than it did on the PC screen & has lots of detail in it which didn't show up well on the screen.  What I thought was a big dark storm cloud is actually a wood in the distance and what I thought was sky is actually a field!"

 Vanda continues "I think I particularly love your landscapes because we live in such an overcrowded urban environment in London. .... You seem to have found the perfect spot - incredibly beautiful, wild landscape, possibilities of solitude .... I had no idea that the East coast of Ireland was like that.

 

Gabriel just ran in from school and stopped and said in wonder "What's that painting? It's got lots of colours. It's good" He is now busy making a painting for you."

 

Finally she asks an interesting question. To her, my landscapes seem very familiar even though she's never been here. She wrote "I had that same déjà vu feeling about Green Pool (pic below) and about Purple Water (above, left). In fact, a lot of your landscape pictures give me that feeling". Has anyone else said that about your paintings?"
