Go Team!

go team

There is nothing like taking the kids to a ball game. Here at GKN we are looking forward to a big year for our baseball team, The Washington Nationals. Their new stadium will be complete for opening day, March 30th!  Check out the game schedule and also cool pics of the new stadium being built.

Besides the major sports, there are many smaller local teams that provide great family friendly fun. We have listed some good options below. See you at the game!

The Washington Bayhawks is the local professional lacrosse team and they have many top stars in the game.  They play mostly in Fairfax and their season starts early summer.  Bayhawks players are very accessible to young lacrosse fans.

The Washington Freedom women's soccer team plays at the Maryland Soccerplex in Germantown throughout the summer.  You'll find past and future Olympians on the team and again, the players are very accessible.

Other Local Sports Teams include:
Maryland Lady Terrapins - women's college basketball (ranked #5 in the nation as of 12/24)
Maryland Nighthawks - men's basketball (do you remember Tamir Goodman?)
Frederick Keys - minor league baseball (Class A affiliate of the Orioles)

 Book Reviews

Here are some books that make us want to play ball even when it's cold outside.

Good Sports by Jack Prelutsky is a fun book of poems about running, jumping and sports. The rhymes are fun and the illustrations are great!

Good Sports

Play Ball, Amelia Bedelia by Peggy Parish is one of the many great Amelia Bedelia adventures.  Amelia Bedelia brings lots of her silly ideas to the local little league team when they are one player short. Her techniques are unorthodox, but in the end she is able to save the day.
