Spring is finally here even though some days it feels like winter
again. Spring is a great time to
think about energizing your home. One way to energize your home is to do an
energy audit with the help of your local utility or energy audit expert. The audit should identify
all the changes that can be made to make your home more energy efficient, and
in turn, save you money.
Energy conservation is the first step to saving you money and reducing
your carbon footprint. For those
new to the green scene, carbon footprint is defined as the total amount of
greenhouse gases produced to directly and indirectly support human activities,
usually expressed in equivalent tons of carbon dioxide (CO2 efficient). |
Let There Be Light
I have been unhappy with my under-cabinet lighting,
but wasn't sure what to do with it. I found the answer while strolling the
halls of the Green California Summit.
At the Phillips booth they were touting their new LED under-cabinet
fixture that would provide a 40 percent energy savings over my current
fluorescent lights. It is supposed to be an easy retrofit, and I will update
you after the installation. For more information Phillips.

Demystifying the Design Process
Part III - Programming
I can hear you now. What the heck is "programming?" It is a fancy word for
information gathering and planning. The designer will seek more detailed information
from the client and others involved in the project. Design interviews seek to determine the client's goals for
the project.This phase also
includes visits to the job sites, taking measurements, obtaining floor plans,
and making sketches. The designer also takes an inventory of items to be
included in the project and begins to determine what materials and items may be
needed. When the designer has all
the information needed, the next phase begins.
