Hi there!

When there is a leak in the hot water heater piping, which is in the studio...it's NOT a good thing. Thank goodness it was found before it got too bad...and thank goodness for Bob the plumber. Disaster averted. I'll admit I wasn't "grace under pressure"... I lost it. Thanks Don and Andy for stepping in and mopping up.

And so... you are probably wondering what this photo has to do with anything...It's from a birthday card I received. And it makes me laugh. And I needed a laugh after my soggy studio ordeal. :)

Hot Off the Easel!

M22 at Deadstream Road

This is the second in the series of Gouache Ink Resist pieces that I'm doing, highlighting local scenes. I pass this spot every day when I take Major on a walk.

The Cherry Bowl

The first one in the series is "The Cherry Bowl" which is an old fashioned drive-in movie theater right along 31, in Honor. And that is the giant chicken that welcomes in all movie goers. :)

My plan for these gouache ink resist pieces, is to offer prints and cards, giving a portion of the money to HARP. (Honor Area Restoration Project) I'll be sure to let you know all about it as the series unfolds.

I'm teaching the Gouache Ink Resist process here if you're interested.

Inspiration to use in your own creative work....

the campaign for drawing...

I stumbled across this site last week... October is "the big draw" month. Who knew?

"Why draw?" you may ask... "I'm not an artist... I don't need to draw."

...and my response?... Here's a great quote from the "Campaign for Drawing" site....

"Drawing helps us to think, invent and communicate - regardless of age and ability."

All of our communication seems to be keyboarded... People don't often get the chance to doodle anymore. It's becoming a lost pleasure.

So October is big draw month...and I'm challenging you to draw. You don't need anything fancy to do it... any old pen or pencil, and any sort of paper, lined or unlined... whatever is handy. This challenge is especially for all of you, so called, "non-artists."  It's time to doodle.

Here are a few links and ideas to get your drawing mojo going....

  • draw while watching TV
  • sketch your pet
  • draw from memory
  • draw the things you'd want on a picnic
  • draw a cartoon
  • draw the pictures in newspapers, catalogs or magazines
  • draw pictures from the computer
  • design clothes
  • design furniture
  • draw the things you'd like in your yard
  • draw your wishes
  • draw your dreams
  • How do artists use sketchbooks? Answer is here.
  • Tons of examples of sketchbooks... you can click on each image to see inside each one.

Most of all... have fun with it. Your drawing is just for you. You can show your drawings or not...(but who doesn't love refridgerator art!)  Now go and get that paper and pencil...
