Hi there!

Lookie what I'm finding on fall leaves my walks this week! How in the world did it get to be September 22nd?

And on a slightly related note...

I'm accepting ideas for Halloween costumes. If you have any good ideas... or even bad ideas, please share them with me. Sometimes I really like bad ideas. :)

Bouquet Celebration
"Bouquet Celebration" 7x5" Acrylic on Paper

(c)2011 Lauren Everett Finn

This little baby was started as a demo for my Acrylic 101 class at the Traverse City Art Center. Finished it up yesterday. Interested? click here.

And....here's a little sneak peek at one I've been working on. This is only about 1/6 of the canvas. Crossing my fingers that it will turn out how I imagine, and I can show you the whole thing next week.  :)

a small portion of the whole canvas...

kinda like a "peep show.

Idea Spark-lers

Inspiration to use in your own creative work....

black and white to color!

In my classes, I'm often heard going on (and on and on) about the importance of learning to see values in your painting. The value of a color is how dark or light it is if looked at in black and white. Whether you want a moody foggy scene with a close value range or a bright eye catching scene with a lot of value contrast, you will have an easier time of it if you can see your colors as values.

Here is a great challenge put on by the

daily paintworks group.

Using the given photograph, make a full color painting following the value map. (the black and white photo) You can check yourself with your digital camera set to the black and white setting to see if your paintings values match the reference image values.  Click here to see how some other artists have done. (scroll below the instructions and the paintings are all there)

2011...What I'm Celebrating...
Early in January, I chose a word to use as my theme for the year... It's "Celebrate"...

Here's a link to the explanation, in case you missed it.

This week, I'm Celebrating:

  • Major's orange vest for our hunting season walks (it has pockets so he can carry his own poop bags)
  • A big win for our Dee Troit Lions
  • meeting new painter friends at my class in Traverse City
  • fall colors are beginning to show
  • Honey Crisp apples!!!
  • crock pot cooking
  • slowly going through treasures in the basement and purging
  • mums
  • Dee Troit Tigers are in the play-offs!
  • new ideas
  • getting my walk in, between rain squalls
  • brainstorming
  • clean sheets
  • windows open sleeping
  • enjoying a novel that's really good AND really long
  • "Karen's Teddy" will Karen's Teddy be living with Karen! (thanks)
  • my timer keeps me on track...sometimes
  • nice notes on my blog from strangers
