Hi there!

Hope you are enjoying all of the late spring - early summer festivities: graduations, weddings, end of school stuff, picnics, and this glorious summery weather.

I've missed a couple of weeks with the newsletter because I had a bit of surgery (some lady bits and cysts removed). It's over-with, pathology was good news, and I'm just about healed...and I've really been enjoying lounging around reading books... actual turn-the-page books from the library no less. There is nothing like a good summer read. My favorite so far?  "The Book Thief" by Markus Zusak.

Major also had some surgery... He had some of his manly bits snipped... He's healing too, but has to wear this fashionable hat since he won't leave his sutures alone. I did not need to wear one after my surgery. I'm a good girl. :)

"Indian Hill Road, Across from Carol's"

9.5 x 9.5 inches

watercolor on gessoed paper

I decided to get the watercolors out. It's my favorite summer medium. My first watercolor attempts after a long break are always a bit too controlled. I prefer them looser. It takes a bit of practice to get back that fast and loose attitude that I love.

Inspiration to use in your own creative work....

Within 5 miles of home.

What about limiting yourself to subjects that are within 5 miles of your front door. Limitations breed creativity! Your artistic eye just might see things that you would have missed if you didn't give yourself that restriction. Maybe your next series will be called "Within 5 miles of home".... or if you really want to push yourself... "Within 1 mile of home."

And.....

I'll be making a re-cycled garment for the "ReFashion Show" to benefit Crystal Lake Art Center. I'm excited about this!  I've teamed up with a nurse, who was in the national guard. (She'll be my model) I'm Re-Fashioning her dress army uniform. I'll be doing a little bit of sewing and a lot of painting on it. Hope it ends up how my little mind is picturing it!
