Hi there!

Our family got bigger by one last week...Meet Our new dog... Major"Major" He sort of serendipitously came to us via our neighbors, who heard of his plight and thought of us. He is a fabulous dog...we are very lucky to have him!

"Well Loved" Series

My friend Karen kindly sent me a photo of her beloved "Teddy." And here he is! It was a lot of fun painting him. I'm envisioning all the paintings in the series to be in a square format, portrait style. But it's probably too early to set that in stone....Click here for a greeting card or print!

"Trees" Series

I love trees. I'm thinking that this series will be individual tree portraits ...and groups or families of trees. This one wasn't going to be a night scene when I started, or maybe it was and I just didn't know it.

And this is how I've been feeling lately.... hehehehe. You?

Click here if you're interested in a card or print. :) You know... with the cards, you can type a "greeting" on the inside and they will print it. This one could say...

"Hi.... ummmm.... what was your name again?"

Zentangles!

"Zentangle is an easy to learn method of creating beautiful images from repetitive patterns. It is a fascinating new art form that is fun and relaxing. It increases focus and creativity." (Here's a link to the website.)

Ok... what's not to like!?! I heard about Zentangles on Facebook from Lois Primeau and Kim Santini

So, to start out... you draw, in pencil, a "string". This will be the bones of your design. (They suggest a 3.5 inch square size paper.)

"strings" in pencil

Then you take any old pen and start patterning within the "string." No thought required. No mistakes possible. That's the "zen" part. :)

Ok... can you spot which "strings" I started with?
(upper left and lower right) I used a fine point "sharpie" marker. Next time I'm going to try using a ball point pen.

I think I'm going to keep a few of these "strings" in my purse... They would be great to doodle on when I have a few minutes with nothing to do.

If you have a minute... here's a link to all sorts of finished zentangles. That should wet your appetite!
2011...What I'm Celebrating...
Early in January, I chose a word to use as my theme for the year... It's "Celebrate"...

Here's a link to the explanation, in case you missed it.

This week, I'm Celebrating:

  • We have a new dog!
  • bird song in the morning
  • open window weather
  • crystal gardens in Frankfort, MI have peacocks wandering around
  • good doctors
  • baltimore orioles eating oranges at the feeders
  • our new dog loves playing with his cousin dog
  • my life feels more normal with a dog
  • planting flowers in lime green pots (a Home Depot find)
  • orchards in bloom
  • seeing an eagle soaring below you from Empire Bluff
  • the seeds we started are healthy and ready to plant
  • i found a bubble machine for $25 but I haven't ordered it yet. Who doesn't need a bubble machine...seriously
  • the fox that ran past on the deck
  • kind people that see a dog in need, and find a home for him...thank you Lori!
