Heidy ho!

All I have to say is "thank God for sunshine" or this last week would have been depressing!  We've had really cold weather...
I know, I know, what do I expect from northern Michigan, right?

I guess I'll take a little cheese with that whine.

Idea Spark-lers...

Inspiration to use in your own creative work....

Need some inspiration? Here's a video for you...

This video is explaining "expressive drawing." (Don't let the guys hair style put you off... LOL.) I found it to be incredibly inspiring... and made me want to tape up some big sheets of paper and have at it!

My Generation: Express Yourself

My Generation: Express Yourself

I stumbled upon the video and then immediately had to buy the book.

I would LOVE to be a facilitator/instructor for this class! And how about that fabulous studio! Wow.

2011...What I'm Celebrating...
Early in January, I chose a word to use as my theme for the year... It's "Celebrate"... Here's a link to the explanation, in case you missed it.

This week, I'm Celebrating:

  • the feeling of moving paint around on a canvas
  • my friend's recipe...mushroom pie...with my own bit of improvisation added
  • embracing imperfection
  • Billy Joel
  • Twyla Tharp's "The Creative Process"
  • friends to go to dinner with
  • virtual critique, with skype and 2 far away painting friends
  • a decent cantaloupe
  • the brownie fairy
  • a new class at Crystal Lake Art Center
  • organic spring jasmine tea
  • a friend has received his liver transplant, after such a long wait.
  • the sound of a crow flying in the stillness of the park... i never realized how loud their wings are against the air. That flying thing looks easy but they are working hard!
  • listening to the ice saying good-bye on the lake...it sounds sad to be leaving.

Classes...

brand new class...  (so new it's not listed in the offerings yet)

The Value of VALUES- Acrylic painting

Crystal Lake Art Center

Tuesday, April 26  12:30-4:30

$32 members/$42 non-members

Come and unravel the mystery and magic of learning to see tonal value, which is the lightness or darkness of a color. You'll discover why value sketches can be an important part of a successful painting routine. You will complete a full color painting, using a black, white and gray under-painting...setting the value pattern down first. Lauren will supply paper, paint and brushes. If you already have a digital camera with a black and white setting, please bring it to class, but don't worry if you don't, we can share. Please also bring gallon-ish size water container, a pencil, and a black sharpie marker or uni-ball pen.

I'll be teaching "Acrylics 101" at the Crystal Lake Art Center on June 14th, 2011.  We'll be elbow deep in paint and techniques...then we'll pull it all together with a painting. Supplies are included... so just come and enjoy a creative play day!

Have a Great Week!
