Good Morning!

Hope this note finds you well and still plugging away with all your New Year's good intentions....
If you remember last week, I announced that my word for 2011 is "Celebrate" so...

I'm Celebrating!
  • My first cross country skiing of the winter.
  • 9 people signed up for my new acrylic class.
  • That first cup of coffee each morning.
  • Free audio book downloads from the library.
  • I can't carry 5 logs or I hurt my back...4 is enough..(wisdom)
  • Making headway in cleaning and organizing the studio.
  • New friends on Facebook.
  • Long time friends on Facebook.
  • My very supportive family.
  • My new and amazing phone.
I could go on and on...

...but I'm Celebrating my restraint. :)

Hot Off the Easel!
Lots of Ways Up
"Lots of Ways Up"
(work in progress)
11 x 10
Acrylic on Paper

I'm working my way back into the "High Road" series, but with neutrals....Just to see if I can restrain my colorful self. I love a challenge!

I'm not sure if this one is quite done...In fact, as I look at it up on the computer screen, I'm sure it's not. I'll let it sit a bit and re-visit it later.

My very last step
with any painting is to sign it...

...that's when I know it's done.

Inspiration to use in your own creative work....

Need a reason to buy yourself flowers?
Here's one.... "I need them as a sketching subject."

...At least that's what I told myself when I bought this pot of daffodils last week. And oh, how I've enjoyed having them. (Not that you EVER need to justify buying yourself flowers)

I sketched them each day...noting the small changes early, then the spurt of growth...and finally the bloom!

Daffy Down DillysI still have yet another sketch of them, blooming in all their springy glory, ready to paint. So from this one little purchase... I have lots of reference material AND the joy of watching them bloom right before my eyes...and sharpie marker.

So...You have my permission to go buy yourself some flowers to sketch....

Go on... do it.

Classes...
I'll be teaching "Acrylics 101" at the Crystal Lake Art Center on February 1st. I'm really looking forward to this class... We'll be elbow deep in paint and techniques...then we'll pull it all together with a painting. Supplies are included... so just come and enjoy a creative play day! Can't wait!!!

Grumbacher acrylic classes at Michael's ... Come and join me for a 2 hour acrylics class... You'll go home with a completed painting! Each class (Landscape, Floral, Still Life, and Seascape) will have different techniques introduced. There are a few paintings within each genre to choose from. Call or stop into Michael's (231-932-9706) to sign up!
