ScienceMan Loves Yenka!
Science Recommends Yenka
ScienceMan is pretty darn picky when it comes to classroom software, so if we're going to give two thumbs up to a piece of software, it's got to be good.

Yenka IS that good!

Yenka is heavily used in the United Kingdom where interactive whiteboards are very prevalent. As that technology spreads in North America, Science teachers need good solutions for simulation software. Yenka fills that role beautifully, and will change the way you teach.

ScienceMan thinks so highly of Yenka that we've created a series of Yenka tutorials to showcase the many great ways it can be used in the classroom.

The best part? Yenka is FREE for home use, so you can download and learn it at your leisure before considering purchase for the classroom.

PhysicsSource Small LogoThis week, ScienceMan has a special welcome for his physics colleagues. Some of you may already know that ScienceMan taught physics for many years, and is the webmaster for PhysicsSource.ca. So those of you that have contacted ScienceMan regarding PhysicsSource, I thought you might be interested in receiving this newsletter. This Month's Internet Gems!

ScienceMan Gems! There's always new, juicy things on the Internet that you can use in your classroom! ScienceMan would like to call your attention to the following gems - in honour of our new physics guests this week, we'll focus on physics gems!:

  1. PhET Interactive Simulations - wow! The University of Colorado has done a fantastic job constructing and organizing a FREE bank of interactive simulations (BTW, they have all been correlated for PhysicsSource.ca!) The physics simulations are particularly impressive. For example:
Wave Interference - the ability to easily simulate interference patterns for water, light and sound is special, but you must use the "Add Detector" feature - it is a stroke of genius!
  2. Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics - whoa, that's a mouthful! The "Meet a Scientist" page features video interviews with great production values that hit a home run at bringing the practical advice of very accomplished physicists to students.
  3. Sixty Symbols - ever wonder what those weird science symbols mean? I can't imagine a more entertaining way to find out!
  4. High Speed Video Clips - two things neat about this. One - high speed cameras are now becoming affordable by the masses. Two - it's always a teacher finding neat and interesting ways to push the envelope!
ScienceMan's Jing!

Jing If you tuned into the ScienceMan's first newsletter, you know what a huge fan I am of Jing.

Well, I like it so much, I've decided to feature a new Jing video every newsletter! This time, let's nod our hat to our physics friends and feature a tutorial on how simulate human vision problems with ray diagrams using Yenka:

Thanks for reading the ScienceMan newsletter! Let me leave you with a quote as a final thought:

"If it's green or wriggles, it's biology.
If it stinks, it's chemistry.
If it doesn't work, it's physics."
