Easter Morn in Ireland by Susan Buckley MLC National Responsible

The Easter Moon with the
Dublin mountains in the background, taken from the top of Killiney Hill, Easter
Sunday morning 6.20am.
We
celebrated Easter Vigil at St Columba's. There were about 20 people there
including a visitor from Texas, Andrew Hill, a distance learner studying
at Trinity College Dublin. The Vigil was lovely.
The start of the sun rising
over the horizon on the Irish Sea taken from the top of Killiney Hill, looking
down unto Dalkey Island. The sea is like glass. 6.22am
Next
morning I was up at 5.45am. Bro Jim collected me at 6.00am to go and see
the sunrise. We have done this for over 20 years. Last year we were at
Mullaghmore. This year we went up to Killiney Hill. All the local
churches take part in a sunrise service. There were 6 priests and ministers.
Sunrise was at 6.34 am. This was the best morning we've had. It was
a lovely mild, calm morning. We welcomed the sun with song and prayer. It
was magnificent!

May Feast Days

George J. Cerniglia,
SM (Assistant for Religious Life, US Province) offers this reflection for the month of May:
Since
the 13th century it has been a Christian custom to dedicate the month of May to
the Blessed Virgin. This devotional practice has been especially recommended by
the popes. Pope Paul VI wrote an encyclical on the Month of May in which
he states: "During this month, Christians, both in church and in the
privacy of the home, offer up to Mary from their hearts an especially fervent
and loving homage of prayer and veneration. In this month, too, the benefits of
God's mercy come down to us from her throne in greater abundance."
For
us in the Marianist Family, there are a number of Marian feasts, some of which
mark anniversaries of special occasions in our history. We also celebrate Mother's
Day during this month, a day to give thanks for our mothers, both living and
deceased. This is also the month when many of our ministries and communities
will mark the closure of the year. Let us commend all of these events to Mary,
the Woman of Faith in our lives.
