Dear Friends,

Sunday is a normal, low-key Sunday.  Come on out and join us for some compelling worship. I'll be preaching and looking forward to seeing all of you.

Best,
Bonnie

Reflections on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Sunday, January 16
Between services, in the Parish Hall
Please join us in celebrating this great man's birthday by listening to parishioner Martin Deppe's insights into Dr. King's ministries from the perspective of an insider.  This is certain to be a very enlightening look at Dr. King.

Journal Writing as a Spiritual Practice
Thursday, January 20 at 7:30pm

Choir area of the church

To know thyself is to know God.
Join us Thursday from 7:30-8:30 pm as we explore journal writing as spiritual practice. Christine Simokaitis will lead a writing exercise designed to spark self-reflection, so bring a notebook and pen.  No experience is necessary.  All are welcome.  Questions?  Contact Christine:  casimo7@gmail.com

Are you into "green"?
stainedglassjesus The Building and Grounds Committee is looking for volunteers for a couple of hours on Saturday, January 15 between 10:00 and 1:00 to complete putting plastic over the sanctuary windows.  If you can make it, even for an hour, that would be great -- and please bring a hairdrier and extension cord if you have one!

Contact Nancy Lischer at buildingsandgrounds@allsaintschicago.org for more information.
Annual Meeting Coming February 6
Annual Reports Due January 24
Annual Meeting Coming February 6!
The annual meeting is on Sunday, February 6 at 10:00am.  There will be no 11:00 worship service.  Instead we'll gather in our parish hall to share a meal, reflect on 2010 and move forward with our ministries for 2011!   If you are interested in standing for election for vestry or for diocesan representative please speak with Bonnie or one of our co-wardens Alison Mankowski (alisonmankowski@sbcglobal.net)  or Ken Jones at (kjones60625@gmail.com).

Creativity and Production
Planning Meeting Sunday after the 11am Service
Would you like to use your creativity in a way you never thought possible? If so, we could use your help to plan and produce the Annual Meeting. If you're interested in helping, contact Bonnie at bonnie@allsaintschicago.org. We'll begin our work this coming Sunday at a meeting after the 11am service.

Annual Reports Due Monday, January 24 by 5pm
One of the ways we celebrate our ministries each year is
by including information about what they have done in each year's
Annual Report. Almost all of our ministries have something in the
Annual Report.

If you'd like to have something included in the Annual Report, the
deadline is Monday, January 24 at 5pm. You can email your submission to Beau Surratt at beau@allsaintschicago.org. Submissions need not be long--just a paragraph or two of what you'd like the congregation to know about your ministry and what it has done in 2010. Any pictures you could send would also be welcome.

If you have no idea what this is about or your need a refresher
about what you might write, take a look at last year's annual report for reference.

Cleanup
We need a crew of folks to help cleanup following the Annual Meeting on Sunday, February 6. If you can help, please contact Beau in the office at 773-561-0111 or beau@allsaintschicago.org.
News from the All Saints' Justice Circle
Justice Circle Meeting
Monday, January 17th at 7pm
All are welcome to the next meeting of the Justice Circle on Monday, January 17th at 7:00pm outside of Bonnie and Beau's office. We will be discussing the Sudan Vigil, a Lenten Social Justice Film Festival, and more. If you have any questions, contact Jack at jack@allsaintschicago.org.

Thank you to Sudan Vigil planners and participants
Thank you to everyone who participated in the Sudan Vigil and Vigil Hours to pray for the people of Sudan. A special thank you to all of those who made the service possible: Chris Nelson, Karen Schrage, Joey Sylvester, Connie Wilson, Eileen Krause, Lionel Edes, Charlie Simokaitis, Nina Chinn, Colleen Mulcahy, and Matty Zaradich. The referendum has been largely peaceful with the exception of Abiyei where the oilfields are located. Final results are expected at the beginning of February.
Billiards and Bowling
Sunday, January 23 at 1pm
Start off the New Year with an All Saints' group for billiards and bowling -- Sunday Jan. 23 at 1 pm at Waveland Bowl, 3700 N. Western.  All family and friends are invited. (We had a great time at our first event last month.) Cost is $12 or so per person plus food and drink ordered individually. For more information, contact Mike Kozubek at mkozubek@att.net or call 773-975-7315.
Calling all spiritual people and liturgy wonks:
goodfriday2010
Good Friday at All Saints', 2010
Wednesday, January 19 at 7:00 pm.

Please join us to begin planning for Lent, Holy Week, Easter, and Pentecost. We hope to use our time together to set the direction for the season and identify working groups for the many opportunities for prayer and worship. For more information contact Carol Reese at worship@allsaintschicago.org.

Note from the editor: names of people who respond to this announcement will be kept anonymous in case you don't want your friends to know you're a liturgy wonk. What is a liturgy wonk anyway?

Can you provide a meal or a ride to a fellow All Saintser?

As you'll see in the blessings section of the prayer list, Laura Youngberg, Chris Nelson and their son William have a new addition to their family, Anton Charles.

stewardship2010_childrenEvery day of every week the doors of our church, All Saints' Episcopal Church, are open. They are open to countless people for worship, for outreach, for our community, for all of us. We come through the doors for different reasons. Some of us have found special meaning and relevance in our services, some of us want our children to be a part of a living and growing church school, and some of us have found our connection to social outreach.

We count on you to continue to grow in grace, spirituality, and community involvement. All of the above numbers start with one. One person making a pledge of his/her time and money. Read more...
