Dear Friends,

We have plenty of opportunities for prayer and action this weekend.

Saturday evening starting with a worship service at 8:00 pm (childcare available for the service only) and going through the night we'll be thinking of and praying for our sisters and brothers in Southern Sudan as they vote to decide whether or not to form a new country.  St. Peter's, Geiger and the congregations of the Diocese of Renk are located close to the border between the Northern and Southern Sudan and thus, if violence does erupt, our friends may be in harm's way.  So, we who are in relationship with these good people, although we are more than 7000 miles away--we can gather and pray and call our community's attention to the precarious nature of their situation.

The worship service will be about an hour and the church will be open all night long.  I invite you to change your schedule and alter your lives to lift up our sisters and brothers in Sudan in prayer.

If you want to read more about the situation in Sudan, take a look at this fabulous op-ed piece in the Chicago Tribune that our Bishop, Jeff Lee, wrote. I'm really glad I took a moment to read it. Let me know what you think. For an update on St. Peter's, our partner parish in Sudan, take a look at this piece from Connie Wilson, coordinator of All Saints' Friends of Sudan.

Saturday morning we'll gather once again at the parking lot of the Ravenswood School for our monthly Market Pantry.  If you'd like to feed some hungry people come and join us.  Set up starts at 8:30 and we're done by 11:00.

Lastly--Thanks to everyone who has offered a generous financial pledge for our ministry in 2011.  If you and your family have not yet contemplated a pledge I ask you to please do so (you can make a pledge online here).  We are figuring out what God is calling us to do and we need your support to enable this faith community to continue making a difference.

All the Best,
Bonnie

All Saints' ECW Ladies' Game Night
Wednesday, January 12 at 7:30pm
The holidays are over and the cold has set in, so chase the winter blues away with an All Saints' ECW Ladies' Game Night! Feel free (but not pressured) to bring along your favorite game and/or your favorite guilty pleasure food. Rousing games of Pictionary while noshing on Doritos and chocolate will ensue. Laughing warms even the chilliest of Chicago winter nights, so come on down to the church hall on Wednesday, January 12 at 7:30pm!
Want to find PEACE and CALM in 2011?
Lectio Divina
discussion and practice
Thursday, January 13 at 7:30pm
Choir area of the church

Join us for a discussion about prayer and the monastic practice of Lectio Divina.  "Lectio Divina" is Latin for Divine, Holy or Spiritual reading.  We will do "Lectio" as a group in combination with prayer, hoping to open further to what God is saying to each of us and responding more fully in our own lives.  All are welcome!  Questions?  Contact Liz Morris at lizzymo@hotmail.com

Billiards and Bowling
Sunday, January 23 at 1pm
Start off the New Year with an All Saints' group for billiards and bowling -- Sunday Jan. 23 at 1 pm at Waveland Bowl, 3700 N. Western.  All family and friends are invited. (We had a great time at our first event last month.) Cost is $12 or so per person plus food and drink ordered individually. For more information, contact Mike Kozubek at mkozubek@att.net or call 773-975-7315.
Volunteer Opportunity: Reality Fair 2011 Needs You!!
Reality Fair Classic:
On January 14th, 7th and 8th graders from Ravenswood School come prepared with a job and a monthly pay check. They try to meet their monthly financial obligations without going bankrupt. Finding out how many children you have, who your spouse is (pilot or deadbeat?), and suffering a couple  of "fickle fingers" of fate make the experience all the more exciting. We need volunteers to staff the different stations (bank, childcare, etc.) at the fair.

Time Commitment: 8:30am-noon on Friday, January 14th.

Premium Hounds:
To contribute to the festive aura of the Reality Fair, we need premiums and giveaways for the different stations. If you or your company has little promo items which would fit the theme of the Reality Fair, let us know. Be creative. In the past we've had Payday candy bars for the banking station, shampoos at the Personal Care table, pen lights at the Utility station, etc. This is a chance to be creative. We also need someone with an auto dealer connection who can get glossy pictures of our high end auto for the Transportation table (last year's was an Escalade).

If you would like to help, or need more information, contact:

Can you provide a meal or a ride to a fellow All Saintser?
Rides to Church- Nancy Brewer
Longtime parishioner Nancy Brewer is in need to a ride to and from church on Sunday mornings. She can go to either the 9 or 11am service.

If you are able to provide assistance, simply send an email to Beau in the Parish Office (beau@allsaintschicago.org) and he'll send you the login info for the Care Calendar so you can sign up to help.

Meals, etc.- the Nelson/Youngberg family
As you'll see in the blessings section of the prayer list, Laura Youngberg, Chris Nelson and their son William have a new addition to their family, Anton Charles.

Thanks to parishioner Michelle Mayes, we have a Care Calendar set up for them so friends, family and church members can help provide a meal or other assistance now that baby Anton has arrived.

If you are able to provide assistance, simply send an email to Beau in the Parish Office (beau@allsaintschicago.org) and he'll send you the login info for the Care Calendar so you can sign up to help.

stewardship2010_childrenEvery day of every week the doors of our church, All Saints' Episcopal Church, are open. They are open to countless people for worship, for outreach, for our community, for all of us. We come through the doors for different reasons. Some of us have found special meaning and relevance in our services, some of us want our children to be a part of a living and growing church school, and some of us have found our connection to social outreach.

We count on you to continue to grow in grace, spirituality, and community involvement. All of the above numbers start with one. One person making a pledge of his/her time and money. Read more...
