Welcome
You have to be a schoolteacher if ...
You have no time for a life from the end of August until Mid-July.
You want to slap the next person who says, 'Must be nice to work from 8.30am to 3.15pm and have your summers and weekends free.'
When you're out in public you feel the urge to talk to strange children and correct their behaviour.
You refer to adults as, 'boys and girls.'
You encourage your spouse by telling them they are a 'good helper.'
Thank god for teachers. As you start another academic year... THANK YOU!

SEAL Learning outcomes now linked to It's OK Being Me
We have a new
resource that shows you precisely how and where It's OK Being Me delivers all 50 of the
SEAL learning outcomes. So for those of you who are thinking of implementing
SEAL and who haven't yet bought our KS3 programme It's OK Being Me, this resource is on the website as 'SEAL Learning Outcomes'. There you can trace each outcome to a specific unit/activity.
You can also at a glance see the type of activity involved, eg
role-play/creative/discussion etc. Please have a look and let us know what you
think! |
Complete brain power
 As Sir Ken Robinson
says, "Human intelligence is richer and more dynamic than we have been led to
believe by formal education." How we all aspire to find the key within or
despite our education system to realise the potential of our students! Our new
KS4 programme explores four different kinds of intelligence - informed,
organised, creative and emotional - and seeks to build the links between them
to encourage effective individual learning. We are excited to be on track and
in production in Spring 2011.

Giving value for money
We start this September with a new pricelist, in line with
today's cost-cutting climate. Discovering Me, our programme for small units outside mainstream education, is now ONLY
£125 along with My World, geared for
Y5 and Y6. Click the titles to view the full extent of how we are giving even more value
for money, including It's OK Being Me.
"It's really good to have space in the school day to talk
about emotions." Student, Bristol.
"A fantastic programme..." Teacher, Salisbury.

Cherokee chief story
An elder Cherokee Native American was teaching his
grandchildren about life. He said to them:
"A fight is going on inside me . . . It is a
terrible fight, and it is between two wolves. One wolf represents fear, anger, envy,
sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment,
inferiority, lies, pride and superiority."
"The other wolf stands for joy, peace, love, hope,
sharing, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, friendship,
empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith. This same fight is going on
inside you and every other person too."
They thought about it for a minute and then one
child asked his grandfather, "Which wolf will win?"
The old Cherokee simply
replied, "The one I feed."

Counselling counts
During 2009 - 2010 in Wales over 4,100 children
completed a school based course of counselling. The Assembly government has said that feedback shows not only the obvious benefits associated with looking
after emotional health, but also many of the pupils have demonstrated improved
attendance and increased confidence in the classroom.
It is heartwarming and
encouraging to see more and more schools addressing the emotional wellbeing of
students, and discovering the all round benefits of improved
emotional intelligence. Obviously attending to teachers' emotional wellbeing is
also key, which is why we at VisionWorks are currently working towards
Emotional Literacy being a core module in PGCEs and other teacher training
courses. |
