Help Pleasanton Be Named California's Coolest City
CCOP members could make the difference, enabling Pleasanton to be the winning city!
What is the CoolCalifornia Challenge?
The CoolCalifornia Challenge is a friendly competition between ten California cities to reduce their community-wide carbon footprints and build more vibrant and sustainable communities. Cities participating in the CoolCalifornia Challenge 2012 are Chula Vista, Citrus Heights, Davis, Gonzales, Pittsburg, Pleasanton, Sacramento, San Jose, Santa Cruz, and Tracy.
Everyone wins!
The CoolCalifornia Challenge is a competition that provides participants with points and rewards for taking particular actions. Unlike most competitions, the points benefit not only individuals, but entire communities. Beginning April 1, 2012 and continuing through May and June, the top three cities with the most points will earn recognition as "Cool California Cities" and the top city will be named the "Coolest California City".
Cast your vote!
A member of each household can sign up to earn points for Pleasanton. Points also earn participants the chance to win prizes from green businesses, helping to stimulate green economic development, and to help local charities by donating points on their behalf.
To sign up, visit: Cool California

Islam 101 Class Every Saturday, 11:00 A.M. to 12:00 Noon, 2232 Camino Ramon, San Ramon
The San Ramon Valley Islamic Center (SRVIC) will be conducting classes on "Islam 101" every Saturday throughout the year from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The classes will be taught by Imad Abboushi, Outreach Director for SRVIC, and will involve casual discussion about Islam, Muslims, their tenets of Faith, the Five Pillars of Islam and topics such as Women in Islam, and the meaning of terms such as "Jihad" and "Sharia," all in order to help people make more sense of what they hear and read in the media, perhaps dispel some of the myths about Islam, and to talk with their neighbors about many of the commonalities they all share. The classes will remain informal and are organized on the principle of "just drop in" so that you can feel free to come when you are able, without needing to either confirm that you will be there or check to see if the class will be held that particular week. Companions in Ignatian Service and Spirituality
One of the organizations represented at the Social Justice Forum in February is one inspired by the spirituality of St. Ignatius, the founder of the Jesuits. It is Companions in Ignatian Service and Spirituality. Companions, through a program of prayer and Ignatian spirituality, enriches the experience of committed individuals, fifty and older, involved in community service with the poor, marginalized and socially vulnerable. A 10-month program beginning in September meets at the Jesuit School of Theology in Berkeley monthly. To see other requirements and consider joining, see Companions.
