Do we REALLY need a "Great Leader"?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ |
Greetings!
"Be careful what you wish for. You might just get it". ~ Unknown ~ "All that is needed for evil to prevail is for good men to do nothing." ~ Attributed to Edmund Burke ~ "We the unfortunate Led by the Unqualified To do the Unnecessary For the Ungrateful." ~ Popular gripe of NS boys ~ I saw in the Asia-Pacific news section of the Business Times of 23 Feb 2012 that Osaka mayor Toru Hashimoto had called for a "dictator" to help sort out Japan's woes, and that voters seemed to like the idea. Hmmmm. Us little red dotties need to keep tabs on that as well!
A while ago, I wrote that people actually determine what type of government they get. It is evident that, even where dictators are concerned, some form of support would have been necessary for them to have gained control. True, a dictator's rise to power is usually accompanied by several layers of political intrigue, legerdermain, rabble-rousing, visions of a glorious common future, vilification of selected "enemies of the state" and a generous sprinkling of violence including pogroms and assassinations. However, the perpetrators would not have succeeded had there been a critical mass of good people willing to stand up for good and stand up to evil. A critical mass of good people willing to risk their lives to ceaselessly promote and establish the underpinnings of good government wherever they may be. Then, even if a "dictator" who wields almost absolute power arises, chances are that he will wield that said power for the good of everyone in the State. Templer and Cromwell arguably represented that embodiment of good men wielding absolute power in their time. Does that sound far-fetched? It would be IMPOSSIBLE if you, my friend, choose to do nothing on the side of good.
Are you part of that critical mass of good people? Are you visible? Do you have credibility? Only then will your efforts to maintain a state ruled by benevolent leaders have any chance of being profitable. Go well! |
