Namaste~

Who am I? It sounds a slightly odd and unbalanced question. I'm me! Who else would I be? But what does that mean?

Along our way to and from the mountains, Kathleen and I had a lot of time to talk. We chatted business, plans, worries, issues...but eventually we got to some of the good stuff. And one of the most interesting items was this question of how we define ourselves on a day to day basis: figuring out who we are when those jobs, titles, roles and responsibilities are stripped away.

Consider these questions: How much do you define yourself by your job/career/profession? Your role as parent or spouse- or your relationships in general? Your possessions, your hobbies? What would you find if you didn't have those titles and people and things?

Don't get me wrong; the roles that we play in this life are part of who we are. They are expressions of our priorities, our choices, our karma and our dharma. But it is interesting to take a look at how and when those things get out of balance, either usurping the lion's share of the "I am" or falling away though we might define them as high priorities. Even more fascinating is the truth that from this paradigm, we are only capable of going so far along this line of questioning, as the mind is limited in its capacity for self-reflection. Do you see where we are going here?

It's good to consider these questions as a mode of svadhyaya (self-study) but ultimately to find the answers we seek, no amount of thinking will get us there. The answer? Meditation. Exploring the reality that exists beyond the veil of thought. Have you spent any time in the silence today?

Peace,
Jill

giving back
delivering love
Turn lip service into real service -- get involved! The blue crew will be taking its yogi-power to the community every Tuesday, as we deliver Meals On Wheels to the homebound elderly and persons with disabilities. We start Tuesday, October 9.

Care to join us? We’ve made it super easy! Each week, we’ll have a signup sheet on the bulletin board at the studio. When you volunteer for the next Tuesday, we’ll send you a reminder on Monday prior. For starters, we can take up to six volunteers.

You'll pick up meals at the MOW’s office in Raleigh between 10:30-11:00 am, and you and a partner will be given a list of delivery addresses. The deliveries generally take about 90 minutes to two hours, and they make a huge difference in the lives of the people you serve.

Service expresses the divinity hidden in man. It broadens one's heart, it destroys narrow-mindedness, and it gives delight.

fun run, great cause
We're joining our friends at Centro restaurant to support the Brentwood Boys & Girls Club of Raleigh. We're putting together walking and running teams for the Day of The Dead 5K, at 9:00 am, Sat, Oct 27. Face painting is optional, but encouraged! The week before the run, we'll be collecting donated art supplies at the blue to also contribute to the cause (see the list of items on the DOTD website).

Register online, and then sign up to be a member of the blue crew at the online WebScheduler.

global mala ~ you gave from the heart!
Our hearts are beyond full with gratitude for our blue community, which joined in our Global Mala celebration, and helped raise an amazing $1,081 for the Ingrid School in Kenya. It was a beautiful day of community and lovingkindness. Just in case you missed it, we’d like to share with you a few photo highlights.

what a way to spend the weekend!
mountain respite
Our annual fall retreat to the N.C. mountains was, as always, a weekend of pure unwinding -- with an extra dose of much-needed tennis-ball massage and a yoga nidra like no other.

We head to the hills again in the spring for another retreat at Prama, and hope you can join us next time around. Take a look at the contented faces in these photos from the autumn retreat.

eco-adventure retreat to belize this february
If we've got you thinking "yoga retreat," then you might want to check out our upcoming retreat in Belize, February 23 - March 2. It includes four nights in pristine jungle and three nights on a private island. Carrington and Jill will lead this retreat of amazing adventures and open-air yoga with stunning views. Combine introspection with activity, relaxation with adventure . . . and maybe a little inspiration.
