Namaste~
So the calendar tells me we are turning the corner to fall. But the hot and humid days tell me summer has not yet let go his grip. Oh, the in-between times...This morning after a workout that could be described no other way than grueling, Jen and I walked out of the gym and into the bright sunny morning. It was already hot and muggy. I began to lament the scorching sun and raging pitta when Jen added in "but the VATA! I actually had to go back into the house four times the other day before I could actually leave. And one of those times was to get something I had left one of the other three times!" I laughed out loud because I could so relate.
So we are between seasons: the potential for pitta attacks in a system weary of being overheated; the movement toward vata season and the propensity toward spinning, spiraling and whirling- off schedule, not sleeping, over-spending. And what does it all mean? What does it all matter? For me, a reminder about balance. Making a routine about sleeping and eating and sticking to it; minding the tendency I always have but this time of year forget about over-scheduling; taking time at least twice a day to stop and breathe, or take a mini-savasana.
Take a moment as we move into September, the advent of fall. Make note- are you grounded? Sleeping? Playing? Resting? What can you do to find balance and ease in this transition time?
Peace, Jill

deepen your practice, enrich your life |
embracing your journey
Developing your yoga practice has a multitude of benefits, not the least of which is an enrichment of your life and your journey on the planet. Just think of where and who you were when you started the practice, and the transformations you have experienced since then. It’s not such a coincidence that our lives are more expansive and that we as beings are different as a result of this journey.
A beautiful thing about yoga is that our journey, the self-discovery, never ends. You might be relatively new to the practice and exploring the physical, mental, and spiritual effects of different types, like Restorative Yoga or a Yin Yoga. Perhaps you are a long-time student, desiring an answer to “what next” by delving into Seva, or service. Or maybe you are a teacher who seeks to refine skills with an advanced practicum taught by a master teacher.
Each time we step further on our path, it is challenging and into a place of the unknown -- but that’s OK! Each time we enrich our practice, we enrich our lives, and, if we are teachers, we also hopefully enrich the lives of our students. Our continued training and study contributes directly to the richness, fullness, skillfulness, and service of what we bring to students and thus the greater community.
As a studio, we create these yoga and life enriching opportunities for our student community with a variety of class and workshop offerings intended to help you dive deeper into the waters of yoga and your own self-discovery. As the season changes yet again, take a moment to consider where your journey is calling you.
