Namaste!
Difficult people. Sigh. What to do?We all have them in our lives. Sometimes it is a person with whom you only have occasional contact- perhaps a perennially malcontented client. Other times it is a person you must face on a regular basis, for the foreseeable future - like a evolutionarily challenged in-law. But regardless of time, place or context; near, far, daily or annually; difficult people are not going to go away. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that it's their job in your journey to more enlightened living to Not Go Anywhere. We gravitate in this life to what we like, what we're good at and what makes us feel good in return. It's human. And so it is that Life enjoys keeping it fresh by sprinkling in a few challenges now and again so you don't become complacent. That is often in the form of a Difficult Person. And the reminder they give us is that the only thing in life you can change is yourself. Don't think of it as taking the high road. Think of it as the only road. Because the other choice is actually moving you backward. Take a breath. Feel your feet touching the earth and grounding you in the present. Know that whatever is coming at you is really about him/her- not about you (you can be grateful for that!). Then silently thank your Difficult Person for being such a great teacher of compassion, patience, forgiveness and acceptance. If you can do it for them, you can do it for yourself, too. 'Cause you're not always so easy to live with either. :)
Peace,
Jill
what to do with time |
your relationship with the clock
In another lifetime, it seems, when I "worked in corporate," we were occasionally asked to participate in workshops that provided insights to how we got work done. The workshops involved taking tests like the Kolbe A™ Index and Myers-Briggs Type Indicator®, and I always found them intriguing.
I recently was reminded of just such a test I took 15 years ago that challenged a number of us "very organized" types with the question of "what to do with time?" Thinking back on those results brings to light for me the ways in which my ever-evolving yoga practice has influenced how I move about in this world, including my relationship with time. Read more about it on the blue community blog. ~ Sandra

mountains + yoga = ahhhhh |
refill your cup
It's hard to believe that in the middle of a heat wave, temperatures will ever be cooler again. But Autumn is so close, you can almost smell the drop in humidity -- sort of. And this October, we return to the mountains of North Carolina for what is fast becoming a favorite retreat destination among the blue lotus community.
Join us October 14-16 for our mid-Autumn retreat at The Prama Institute, nestled among 150 acres of rolling hills and forest lands in Marshall, N.C. The scenic, peaceful surroundings create the perfect space for recharging your body, mind and spirit. To top it all off, the vegetarian cuisine may be some of the best you've ever tasted!
Register at the Workshops & Events tab before September 15 to receive the early bird discount.

meet karie wik
Favorite Asana: Supta Baddha Konasana (Reclining Bound Angle Pose) and Sphinx Pose Little Known Fact About Me: I love to watch college football. Who Inspires Me: People who experience unfortunate life circumstances who do not live in reaction to those events are inspiring to me. Whether it is a close friend or stranger who has lived through a disaster, to see them living with joy and thriving encourages me to find joy as well. Favorite yoga music: Completely depends on my mood—I like just about everything. I do enjoy Kirtan a lot, and Jai Uttal is a favorite for sure. Favorite yoga book: T.K.V. Desikachar’s The Heart of Yoga is my very favorite yoga guidebook. Favorite Quote: “If you begin to understand what you are without trying to change it, then what you are undergoes a transformation.” ~ Jiddu Krishnamurti The best thing about being a yoga peep: As a fiercely introverted person, peeping at the blue allows me to interact more in the community than I would by just attending class, and I am thankful for this. It’s also been a great way to try out all the different classes and instructors. Why I love blue lotus: It just feels like a safe place – I have felt welcomed and acknowledged there since the first class I attended. I knew I loved yoga when: I guess I probably knew I loved yoga when I found myself scheduling my day, week or whatever around my yoga practice – instead of the other way around. When I'll be greeting you: Wednesday nights for Vinyasa Open Level at 7:00 pm with Kris.
