 FROM THE CEO
"2010: A Great Year for Technology"
That's what Mark Anderson said in his closing keynote at
last month's G'Day USA Australia Innovation Shoot Out at the Microsoft Campus
in Silicon Valley. "2010 will be a great year for
technology." How does he know? Well, Mark Anderson is the CEO of Strategic News Service, the creator of the
Future in Review (FiRe) conference and one of the leading forecasters of
important technology shifts. With a 10-year publicly graded accuracy rate of
over 90%, if Mark Anderson makes a statement like this, the tech industry
takes notice.
What has ANZA Technology Network got in store for companies
who will be a part of this great year for technology? The answer is plenty!
I will be in Australia, 15-26 February looking for exciting
entrepreneurs with innovative technologies and solid business plans who are
interested in going global in 2010. With our plans for our Gateway to China
pilot firming up and a design for a revamped - and larger - Gateway to the US
developing, ANZA is ready to be a part of "2010: A Great Year for Technology".
Are you?
Please see our calendar listings below for events in
Adelaide that have been confirmed to date in February; meet ups in other cities
are still being set up, but please drop me an email if you will be in Adelaide
(15-19 Feb), Melbourne (22-23 Feb) or Sydney (24-26 Feb), so I can send you
details as soon as we have them.
Viki Viki Forrest, CEO ANZA Technology Network

ANZA'S GATEWAY TO CHINA PILOT PROGRAM: AN UPDATE
We have had broad interest in our Gateway to China pilot program as we continue to research what will be the best way to make this program a success for everyone involved. While our original plan was to base this program on our Gateway to the US model, we have been learning to practice what we preach! We always tell Australian and New Zealand entrepreneurs that what works well in your home market, doesn't always translate to the US. The same is true with what works in a program geared to the US will most likely not work in China. With this in mind, we have been continually refining the pilot and continue to seek the right blend of companies that will be best suited to take part in this initial offering. We are planning to run a 1-day workshop in Sydney during the 24-26 February period, with a week in Shanghai still tentatively scheduled for 20-27 March. All interested innovative Australian companies serious about the China market are encouraged to register your interest here and/or to contact Viki Forrest for more information. It's our goal to do the ANZA China pilot program so that participating companies can maximize the opportunities during World EXPO 2010 in Shanghai. Back to top. |

SOLAR-GEM WINS 2010 G'DAY USA AUSTRALIAN INNOVATION SHOOT OUT
Solar-Gem, one of the New South Wales state finalists, took top honors at this year's G'Day USA Australian Innovation Shoot Out at the Microsoft Campus in Silicon Valley on January 20.
Solar-Gem CEO Khimji Vaghjiani was named "Australian Innovator of the Year" by the judging panel of US technology investors and thought leaders, who were impressed with the possibilities of Solar-Gem's innovative off-grid lighting and electricity system that can bring low-cost power to remote and poverty-stricken areas of the world - a target market of 1.6 billion people. [Editor's note: Another person who was impressed with Solar-Gem's technology was Robert Scoble. Watch the Scobleizer interview with Khimji at this YouTube link.]
"Solar-Gem solves several critically important global problems at one time," said Mark Anderson, CEO of Strategic News Service, and the chair of the judging panel. "Their technology can be a great enabler for economic development -- for health, education, security and communications in most of the world."
Six other companies competed in the Shoot Out alongside Solar-Gem, including DigiSensory (NSW), IntelliGuard (Victoria), Mid-Comp (Victoria), MultiTrode (Queensland), Synengco (Queensland) and Zarloc (SA). In true Australian innovative fashion, the technologies cut a wide swath across sectors - clean and green tech, business management software and hardware and physical surveillance and IT systems. ANZA Technology Network worked with the companies for 4 weeks prior to the Shoot Out to help them prepare their presentations for the US audience of investors, tech industry insiders and media.
