Mobile parts ordering delivers increased benefits for Outsourced Stores
Many UK Social Housing providers man and run their own in-house stores, but more and more are moving to working with an external supplier to provide outsourced stores for them. The benefits enjoyed by switching to outsourced stores are significant and these can be further enhanced by adopting a mobile materials ordering solution as part of the change.
Mobile ordering will provide a seamless interface between the mobile operative and the stores by facilitating instant ordering of van stock replenishment or specialist materials and automatically allocating these to individual jobs and tasks. This helps increase efficiency and substantially reduce costs.

Powys County Council rolls out an enterprise wide mobile solution.
Powys County Council is responsible for an extensive, largely upland, extremely rural county covering 2000 square miles - about a quarter of the area of Wales. With only one person in every 10 acres it is one of the most sparsely populated local Authority areas in England and Wales.
With such a large geographical area to cover, Powys was early to realise that reducing the need to visit the office regularly would save time and costs for mobile operatives and had introduced a mobile solution for the 50 maintenance and repairs operatives, but it was not perfect as coverage in difficult areas was poor.
Replacing the existing system for better performance opened up new potential, as John Jones from Powys explains: "We wanted to use the opportunity to introduce greater flexibility into the solution so that we could bring on board everyone in the Authority, without the overhead of managing multiple systems" Powys chose 1st Touch Mobile for its ease of use and flexibility to cover multiple areas for mobilisation.
The overriding advantage that 1st Touch offered was flexibility, says Jones. "Business changes fast and we wanted to be able to change forms and develop new solutions for a growing number of users ourselves."
Time savings and greater availability of information are the outstanding benefits of the mobile solution, together with its potential for application right across the Council organisation.
