Let Food Be your Medicine..

Can you know what is good for you without having a medical degree? When we're not well, we find the right doctor who can investigate the problem and prescribe the proper treatments. But what can we do for ourselves? Eating the proper foods is your first line of defense. And one thing is certain: you need fruits and vegetables. It has been proven that fruits and vegetables contain virtually all the vitamins and minerals that the body needs, as well as numerous phytochemicals with many nutritional and protective properties..

I am not saying you can live on these foods alone, but they should definitely be included as a large part of everybody's diet. Among the most nutrient-dense vegetables are kale, parsley, cabbage, beets, and spinach, to name just a few. Berries and other fruits are vital foods for your body as well.

In addition, you can support any weakened body functions with specific herbs and whole-food supplements. Many people also benefit from taking digestive enzymes with meals and taking probiotics to support digestion and bowel activities. Specific vitamin, mineral, and other supplements can also be added to address a specific condition being treated.
Energy of Foods
There are two levels of value in foods. One level is the physical nutrients contained in the foods; the other is the energy level of the food by itself. A term that has been coined is "the energetics of foods"--that is, the electrons and molecular make-up of foods. Everything is energy. Remember high school chemistry class, when we were told that everything is made up of electrons, which make up molecules, which combine to make up the physical universe? It's the same with foods. And the more food is processed and cooked, the more the energetics of the food are destroyed.
The Power of Fruits and Vegetables
 Fruits and Vegetables
Years ago, I was inspired by the power in natural, whole foods to develop Juice Plus+®, which is now sold and distributed by NSA, Inc. and has become the best-selling line of encapsulated fruit and vegetable products in the world. Juice Plus+® works well in several ways: it has been proven to be bioavailable, to improve digestion, and to increase the levels of phytochemicals, vitamins, and minerals in the bloodstream. One of the major reasons for these benefits is that Juice Plus+® powders are nutrient-dense, predigested supplements with enzymes added. Another reason is that the ratio of combined fruits and vegetables makes them easy to absorb. Furthermore, Juice Plus+® powders contain the phytochemicals from every food source that's in their formulas.

In his best-selling book Nutripoints, Dr. Roy Vartabedian presents the overall nutritional value of thousands of foods based on an analysis of 26 key nutrients. This analysis determines each food's Nutripoint score in a range of 0-100, reflecting the food's nutrient density, or nutrition per calorie; the higher the score, the better. (For details on Nutripoints calculations, see www.Nutripoints.com.) In his evaluation of the ingredients in Juice Plus+® capsules, he found that the formula's fruits, vegetables, and grains yielded up to five times the nutrient density of the average, fruit, vegetable or grain. Dr. Vartabedian states that Juice Plus+® is just about the most nutrient-dense of any naturally occurring foods he has analyzed.

The various knock-off products on the market don't have the suppoJuice Plus+ Researchrting research base. Primary research has been done for Juice Plus+®, as opposed to "borrowed research" in which information is given on the effects of each separate plant or other constituent in a product's formula, but no research has been conducted on the whole formula combined. Knowing about each separate fruit or vegetable or herb in a formula doesn't mean the combination is going to work as stated-research should be done on the whole formula as embodied in the product.

When you buy any supplement or other health product, look for primary research or similar information that proves its efficacy. Get your money's worth. Simply throwing a bunch of foods or nutrients into a capsule and calling it a nutritional supplement, without considering the energy aspect of each ingredient and their ratio to each other, is called "poly-pharmacy." It looks good on paper, but does it work when it's taken into the body? Don't be fooled by poly-pharmacy or borrowed research. Go with what has been proven.

Some natural remedies, of course, have proven their effectiveness over hundreds of years-maybe not scientifically, but by intuition and actual usage. Nowadays, however, we have technology at our disposal to prove the effectiveness of historically used plants, herbs, and homeopathic combinations. I've done energetics research on Juice Plus+® myself, using sensitive energy-measuring equipment. My formulas were used in clinical practice for ten years before NSA brought them to the marketplace on a large scale. The ancient Greek physician Hippocrates was correct when he said, "Let food be your medicine and medicine be your food."
