Volunteer Grant Readers Needed
The 2010-2011 Community Impact Fund grant process is underway!  To help improve the lives of those in our community, United Way awards grants to qualified 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations.  Each grant is reviewed by volunteers in a rigorous process that ensures accountability and capacity for delivery, and encourages community problem-solving innovation.  Volunteers are crucial to this effort, and have the opportunity to learn more about United Way and local health and human service programs.  To learn more, download the volunteer job description and interest sheet here.

HaitiHaitian Relief Fund
The local United Way Haitian Relief Fund is still open for  donations. Proceeds from the fund are contributed to the United Way Worldwide Disaster Fund, supporting recovery and  long-term rebuilding needs of the devastated Haitian communities, as well as to meet the needs of Haitians affected by the disaster who have relocated to the USA and throughout the Caribbean.

Contributions can be made at any of the following locations: any Mission Community Bank branch, Barnett Cox & Associates and United Way. Donors interested in contributing online can click here more information. All contributions should be designated to "Haitian Relief Fund".

You can also text HAITI to UNITED (864833) to make a $5 donation directly to United Way Worldwide's Disaster Recovery Fund.

COUNTParticipate in the 2010 Census

The Census is a count of everyone residing in the United States, so all U.S. residents must be counted- both citizens and non citizens.

Census questioniares will be mailed or delivered to households in February and March. Please participate and return your questionaire in April. Some people in remote areas will be counted in person.

The 2010 Census Questionnaire is easy, important and safe. The answers to each household's ten questions cannot be shared with anyone, including other federal agencies and law enformcement entities. Census data is important to allocate government funds, determine locations for hospitals, and define legislative boundaries.

Do you work with a hard to count population? Get involved! Contact Kara at kedwall@unitedwayslo.org.

BANKAmerican Principle Bank Lives United

American Principle Bank Logo
Long time United Way supporter, and American Principle Bank president, Tom Beene and Chief Information Officer Ken Long wanted to offer their employees an opportunity to support the community they live and work in. The United Way of San Luis Obispo County Workplace Giving Program was the ideal way to do that. This program not only offers an opportunity for employees to give their financial support, but the program also provides several chances throughout the year to make a difference by participating in volunteer events. American Principle Bank has now joined the over 80 local companies that participate in the Workplace Giving Program.

PASOCity of Paso Robles Supports United Way and Haiti Relief

Paso RoblesUnited Way would like to thank the City of Paso Robles for their generosity. When City Manager James App and Human Resource Manager Marlene Sanders wanted to offer City of Paso Robles employees an opportunity to contribute to Haitian earthquake relief, they chose to participate in a Workplace Giving Program. Employees gave to the United Way Haitian Relief Fund through monthly pledges, which helps with long-term recovery efforts, and were also given the option to donate to the Community Impact Fund, which provides support for SLO County programs focusing on education, income, and health. Thank you City of Paso Robles!
