June Newsletter 2012

Greetings!

 Top

Each year, the Youth Homes Auxiliary, Youth Homes staff, board members, Aftercare alumni, resident youth and even some foster families come together for our Celebration of Hope Luncheon. It is a time to acknowledge all the many wonderful Auxiliary volunteers for giving so generously of their time and talents. It is a time to celebrate our youth and their many accomplishments and allow them to see the faces of those who care so deeply about them.  This year, during the talent show, the kids performed a song, a dance, two spoken word poems, a spiritual rap song, and a heartfelt thank you from some of the youth at East Bay Shelter.

Seven former YH residents were presented with scholarships, and five current YH residents were hired to participate in our Summer Job Program.  The Auxiliary were also very proud to honor Shirley Fulcher and Carla Pancheco for their outstanding volunteer service during the year. Best wishes to all of our new graduates and newly employed youth.  We are VERY proud of each and every one of you!

Youth Homes would like to express our gratitude to the Auxiliary for your dedication and hard work.  Your generous support is making a difference in the lives of the youth we serve.

Have you have been meaning to clean out your closets?

Alamo Women's Club

Youth Homes was recently one of the proud recipients to receive donations during a very special Earth Day event. The Alamo Women's Club chose a handful of non-profit organizations, spread the word, and organized a community giving fair where donations could be received.

Youth Homes was thrilled to be the recipient of such an outpouring of community giving. Donations received included; sporting equipment, school supplies, gardening supplies, and more! Pictured left, Auxiliary members June Krug and Sandra Abram during Earth Day.

The Alamo Women's Club recently awarded several scholarships to our TAY Aftercare clients to help pay for college, and monies to help pay for grooming for some of the girls. If this wasn't enough, Youth Homes was voted philanthropy of the year by the AWC for 2011-2012!

From the staff at Youth Homes and all the youth, we would like to say "Thank you AWC" for all the many blessings you have showered upon us. You have really outdone yourselves!

Soroptimist International

In a recent email newsletter YH featured former resident Kelly as she shared her amazing story of survival, "A Story of Resilience and Hope." Kelly  is working on her memoirs of overcoming childhood abuse and expressed a need for a computer. Soroptimist International is an organization that supports women and girls in need and has been a strong proponent of Youth Homes.

Soroptimist responded swiftly and Kelly was  awarded monies to purchase a brand new computer in which she was thrilled to find in her favorite color red.

Thank you Soroptimist!

To awaken others to the hope that is in them may be the greatest thing we can do for them. We humans need hope. We can survive without many of life's physical, intelectual, and emotional realitites, but we cannot survive without hope. What a gift it is then to have someone arouse us to this reality dwelling deep within us - E Glenn Hinson
