Donations

Many girls in our target locations for next year are unable to pay and participate in the program. If you are interested in providing a program scholarship for girls for our upcoming Spring 2010 season, please visit our website and click the DONATE button to make a donation. Scholarship amounts are from $25 to $125.

A donation of $250 sponsors one girl for one year. This amount goes toward providing trained coaches, the GOTR curriculum, snacks, t-shirts and registration fees needed to support the program. As part of our mission and commitment to Austin and surrounding communities, we will bring the Girls on the Run program to all areas in need, but we need your help.

About Girls on the Run
GOTR is an after-school program that uses the power of running to help prepare pre-teen girls for a lifetime of self-respect, positive choices and healthy living. Over 12 weeks, girls are guided by trained volunteer coaches, and learn about the power of positive self-image. At the end of the semester, in celebration of their achievement, girls along with their families, coaches and volunteers participate in a local 5K race.

LOOKING FOR RUNNING BUDDIES!

On Sunday, April 25th we will be hosting our first New Balance Girls on the Run - Austin 5K.  While the race is open to everyone, it is also the "graduation race" for girls (grades 3-5) who have been enrolled in our 12-week development program.   To help ensure their success in completing their first 5K race, we are looking for running buddies to help encourage each girl along the course and across the finish line.

Running BuddiesServing as a Running Buddy is a fun and rewarding way to get involved with Girls on the Run and learn more about our program. You get to experience the program first hand, feel a sense of accomplishment that you have made a difference in the lives of the girl, and have a ton of fun with our incredible girls! This is a perfect opportunity for those who want to witness the girls reach success at the end of the 12-week program.

Running Buddies complete the 5K race with a girl in our program, must be available on race day, and provide their own race registration. Help us make a difference for a girl, its an experience you won't forget.

Did You Know?
Packaging GirlhoodPackaging Girlhood -

A new book by Sharon Lamb and Lyn Mikel Brown that helps guide parents through attempts to claim them by marketers and the media. It shows parents the image of girls (sexy, diva, boy-crazy, shoppers) that's being packaged and sold, pretty in pink. They write about how "girl power" has been co-opted by marketers of music, fashion, books, cartoons, TV shows, movies, toys, and more to mean the power to shop and attract boys, and how girls are encouraged to use their "voice" to choose accessorizing over academics, sex appeal over sports, and boyfriends over friends.
