Dear BOLD Supporters,

What is being BOLD? I was watching a documentary the other day and one woman said, "I am changed forever by this experience." That's it. That was my intention when I started BOLD. To have people walk out of my play or a BOLD Red Tent and say, "I am different now." Whenever we shift change is possible.

I've read the comments in BOLD audience feedback forms so I know the shift is taking place, I see it in cover pieces like Time Magazine's "How the First Nine Months Shapes the Rest of Your Life" and offerings like the upcoming Ecstatic Birth Tele-Summit.

All of this convinces me that we must keep being BOLD...BOLD in our bodies, voices and the actions we take.

One way you can be BOLD right now is to support our new fundraising effort to bring our BOLDness to more students and new mothers. We've teamed up with two BOLD moms at My Mommy Manual to create a great opportunity for you to receive a good product and for BOLD to benefit.  More on this below and in my recent blog post.

Thanks for being BOLD with me!

Warmly,
Karen

Help BOLD raise money to educate students!

My mommy manual High on BOLD's wish list is to create a BOLD kit for professors to use with students to educate the next generation about maternity care issues and for childbirth educators to also have a similar kit to use with new parents. Imagine it: students and new moms watching a DVD of the play, talkbacks from around the world and giving them a study guide with resources that get them engaged with childbirth options and more. Thanks to the two "BOLD" moms who started  My Mommy Manual  - Suzanne Tucker and Ria Sharon - BOLD supporters like you have the opportunity to raise money to make these BOLD kits a reality! For every Yoga Parenting course and Holding Hands Bracelet that's purchased BOLD will receive 50 percent of the net profit. Please consider being BOLD and purchasing these products, tell your friends about them, post a  link to your Facebook page, and if you have a website email us and we'll send you a banner you can put on your website so your supporters can buy a great product and support BOLD at the same time. For more information on these products click on the "Yoga Parenting" and "The Holding Hands Bracelet" sidebars on this email. For information with links to helping BOLD raise this money read Karen's recent blog entry.

Texas: BOLD all over

BOLD performances took place at two locations in Texas this September! For the fifth year in a row BOLD Houston Organizer Pat Jones organized four free performances, three on university campuses. BOLD Fort Worth (see photo at left) had two dazzling performances and were featured on Good Morning Texas!

It's "Naissance" to all who speak French!

...and don't our BOLD French partners know it! BOLD performances in French will take place this Fall in Lyon, Paris, Mouans Sartoux, Issy les Moulineaux and in Quebec and Montreal!

"Birth" premiered in Austria

How's this for being BOLD? Sylvia Sedlak found out about the play several years ago, read the English version and said to herself: with a 30% cesarean rate in Austria "we need this play in Austria." So at night while her children slept she translated the entire play into Austrian German. With the help of American German professor Helga Thorson the two created a German translation of the play ("called Geburt" in German) that premiered October 8th in Austria!  Thank you, Sylvia, for being BOLD! For more information on their performance click here.
South Dakota offers 3 BOLD Red Tents

This is the third year in a row that South Dakota Safe Childbirth Options sponsored a BOLD Red Tent in Sioux Falls on the Friday after Labor Day.  Each year they have attracted a little over 15 women to the event to share their stories.  This year they decided to be BOLDer and  plan to hold events in Sioux Falls and 2 other communities around the state in September.  Debbie Pease, BOLD Red Tent Organizer in South Dakota says, "I'm very excited to expand the opportunity for other women to take part in this powerful event!"
