Campground Etiquette 101

Be courteous, and know the rules. Even though you love Fifi, your neighbor may not. Quiet barking dogs as quickly as possible, pick up after your pet, and don't allow your pet to wander the campground off the leash. If you disregard the rules, the campground might stop allowing pets, or might stop allowing you.  (From Good Sam Club - Campground Etiquette 101)

Mark You Calendar for the Fall Hammer-In

Mark your calendar for Friday, September 28 & Saturday, September 29 for the Fall Hammer-In at Trackrock.  Activities include bladesmithing, hawk forging, leather crafting and forge building.  Watch, meet and talk with several talented bladesmiths.  See what it takes to transform old discarded steel scrap metal into functional works of art. Fine craftsmen from several states attend, some collectors bring their collections to display, knifemaking supply vendors participate and others come just like to look and talk knives.  This is a family oriented event open to all with no admission fees, so come join in the fun!  More info at www.georgiaknifemakersguild.com

Great 1st Annual Auction at Trackrock!

"Two dollars, now 3, now 3 will you give me 3?  Three dollars, now 5, now 5, will you give me 5?"

This was the chant heard at Trackrock Pavilion Wednesday night as our own Sammy Haupt, professional auctioneer, pointed to item after item up for bid.

After a delicious Pot Luck Dinner, everyone gathered around for an auction to benefit The Humane Society Mountain Shelter.  Everything from Christmas items, to jewelry, to homemade brownies went on the auction block.  To say it was a success is an understatement.  A lot of puppy and kitty kibbles will be purchased with the several hundred dollars collected for the donated items, which came from campers and staff at Trackrock.  http://humanesocietymountainshelter.org/

It was fun for all and a great cause.  We plan more auctions in the future.  Watch Trackrock Happenings for dates and times!

Labor Day Activities

On Saturday at 2pm, send the kids down to the pavilion to make their special Trackrock souvenir!  A medallion of a wolf, bear or horse design.  A great crafts project!  Cost is $3 to cover supplies.  Please sign up at office.

There will be hayrides!  We will have hayrides both Saturday and Sunday evenings.  Watch the sign outside the office for times.   Remember, you must buy a ticket for $4 for each person 6 and older for the hayrides.  The tickets are available in the office.

The Tommie Alexander Memorial Chapel will offer services Sunday morning at 9a.m.

Make Your Plans for September and November

Now is the time to consider a trip with your neighbors, church group, scouts or any other group of folks you can think of and make plans for your September or November group outings.  We are happy to assist you with making arrangements for your group - such as private hayrides, catering and activities.  Remember - we cannot take groups during the month of October, but if you would like to plan a later date, the weather is great through November.  The bathhouse is heated and the showers hot!  http://www.trackrock.com/campinfo.html

Out and About at Trackrock...

Hay Y'all!

What better way to see the prettiness of Trackrock than perched on a hay bale in the back of an open wagon? Trackrock Saturday nights are known for loading up the wagon and taking a fun ride along trails, through creeks, into the open fields.

A stop along the way sometimes provides an up-close-and-personal visit with some of the horses from Trackrock Stables, as they amble up to the wagon to munch on that very bale of hay that you are sitting on. Looking skyward gives views of our mountains that are incredible.

Depending on the season, there are wild flowers to enjoy, sometimes deer grazing along the sidelines, wild turkey have been seen but always, always fun and laughter. Your host and driver, Frank Alexander, provides a few fun and fact filled stories along the way to further enhance your haytime experience.

I talked with two young ladies who visited here recently (Ashlyn McClearia of Helena, Alabama and Jessica Jordan of Huntsville AL) and they described the experience as "Awesome!", "Cool!" and "Fun!". And if you're wondering, it doesn't matter if you're nine or ninety the hayride is a delight but be warned, get your tickets early on Saturday since seats are limited and the rides tend to fill up fast!  http://www.trackrock.com/activities.html

Happy Trails!

"Riding aloft on a mountain of fragrant hay. This is the earliest form of the human pleasure excursion, and for utter joy and perfect contentment it stands alone in a man's threescore years and ten; all that come after it have flaws, but this has none."   -Mark Twain
