Winterizing your RV
Since winter always seems to follow fall, this seems like a good time to share some tips on storing your motor home. A few general principles:
1. Your owner's manual and supplements are your friend. That's where you'll find storing and winterizing procedures specific to your unit.
2. Think both "motor" and "home". Your chassis and engine, as well as the various systems of the coach itself, need prepping.
3. Water expands as it freezes. And unless you remove it or treat it appropriately, it can cause all kinds of havoc when it does.
4. Non-use can be just as hard on things as use. Parasitic current drain (that digital clock on the microwave) can discharge batteries, while lack of air movement can turn refrigerators into overgrown Petri dishes.
But consult your owner's manual and supplements for definitive directions. That way your motor home will be ready to go when you are. |
What do YOU think?
We're always looking for good stories. Send us an email and tell us about your favorite destinations, recipes, travel tips, or whatever else you'd like to share.

Greetings!
Welcome to the latest edition of our new Traveling Times newsletter.
Traveling Times was created to enhance your enjoyment of RVing, introduce you to new people and places, and increase your knowledge of our motor homes. It is produced about every three weeks or so, subject to the occasional detour along the way.
If you have something you think might be of interest to other RVers, please send us an email. (Our lawyers want you to know that all submissions become the property of Winnebago Industries, so if you don't want us to share your Aunt Minnie's prized liver and onions recipe, please don't send it in!)
By the way, if you missed it, you can find the first issue of Traveling Times in the archive. We hope you enjoy this issue, and look forward to sharing more with you in the coming months.

Winnebago Industries wins RVDA Quality Circle Award
 |
Winnebago Industries representatives (unless otherwise noted) from left to right include: Alden Kowarsky, RVDA of Canada Chairman, Randy Potts, CEO and President, Chuck Hughes, Director of Quality, Dennis Shaw, General Sales Manager, Bob Olson, Chairman of the Board, Steve Evenson, Director of Parts and Service, Bill O'Leary, VP of Product Development, Roger Martin, VP of Sales and Marketing, Chad Reece, Director of Marketing, Tim O'Brien, 2010-2011 RVDA of America Chairman. |
RV dealers see hundreds or even thousands of customers a year, and often carry more than one brand of RV. As a group, they know their customers, their suppliers and their business.
So we pay attention when their trade association, the National RV Dealers Association, surveys them about their manufacturer partners. Dealers are asked to rate manufacturers on everything from vehicle quality and reliability to price / value to warranty support to parts availability.
That's why we're especially pleased to let you know we have again been honored with RVDA's coveted Quality Circle award. Not only have we earned it for 16 consecutive years, we're the only manufacturer to earn it every year since it began. We value our dealer partners, and it's nice to know they value us as well. |

The Keys for a great winter getaway
When the north gets cold, the cold head south. And as home to the southernmost point in the continental United States, the Florida Keys are about as far south as you can take your RV without leaving the country.

Think of them as tropical islands you can drive to. The vibe is laid-back (Jimmy Buffet's "Margaritaville" is the unofficial anthem), the beaches are beautiful, the sunsets are stunning, the diving and fishing are great, and -- well, how many excuses do you really need?
The Keys are divided into three zones. The Upper Keys include Key Largo (setting for the Humphrey Bogart film of the same name) and Islamorada; the Middle Keys are centered around the old city of Marathon ("heart of the Keys"); while the Lower Keys include Big Pine Key (home to the National Key Deer Refuge) as well as Key West.
There are lots of campgrounds, including four state parks with RV sites, but please plan ahead, as they can fill quickly. For more information about this unique destination, visit any of the following sites: Florida State Parks, Florida Keys Camping, Florida Keys, RV on the Go - Florida Keys, GoRVing.
