Greetings!
Hope your weekend was a good as mine. I had the good fortune to spend my weekend with some of the most wonderful people I know. I was in the beautiful city of Charleston South Carolina with about 1,200 gymnasts, their parents and coaches.
It was wonderful to see old friends and meet many new ones. The "Charleston Cup" is one of the largest invitational gymnastic meets in the country and I was privileged to be a vendor there selling my glass gymnastic sculptures.
My display was just across from one of the main venues so I had lots of time to observe the hundreds of people as they went about the activities of the event. It was a real family affair and the atmosphere was festive and electric. Parents, grandparents, brothers, sisters, friends and spectators all cheering on the their gymnast. The ages ranged from first timers to Olympic hopefuls.
While watching the doting parents and grandparents was heart warming, it was the coaches that caught my attention the most. Their dedication and love for those kids was obvious. They had a real servants heart.
It made me think of my own intentions for being there. Sure I knew my bottom line. I knew at what point in the weekend I broke even. That's my business, but did I have a servants heart like these coaches did?
I began to think of business owners I've known over the years and how the really successful ones thought first of how they could better serve their customers.
As I pondered these things a line from the gospel of Luke came to mind. It was where the disciples were arguing over who would be considered the greatest among them. Jesus said this.
"The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them; and those who exercise authority over them call themselves Benefactors. But you are not to be like that. Instead, the greatest among you should be like the youngest, and the one who rules like the one who serves."
Have a great week. You guys inspire me!
I love you guys. Don
