Greetings!
I think most of us would like to consider ourselves people of integrity. I know I certainly like to think of myself that way. Integrity. The dictionary defines it; 1. adherence to moral and ethical principles. soundness of moral character; honesty. 2. the state of being whole, entire, or undiminished.
I've found that integrity is something that has to guarded carefully because without even realizing it our integrity can be compromised. A promise broken, an action not taken because it was inconvenient or a careless word spoken out of frustration. It doesn't have to be a blatant act of dishonesty. My friend Jorge, pronounced Horhay. put it this way. "It's easy to maintain your integrity when no one is offering to buy it from you."
In thinking about this subject I was reminded of a story I heard on the radio a few years back. A pastor of a large Church with a local TV ministry was in a video store. After locating the movies that his wife and kids had instructed him to bring home, he looked at his watch and realized he really had to hurry in order to make an appointment back at his office.
He got in line and impatiently waited his turn. The young lady behind the register was polite and efficient and he was quickly headed for his car. Buckling his seat-belt he glanced at his receipt and realized the young lady had undercharged him by a couple of dollars.
He started the car and as he was putting it in reverse he heard the "voice". You need to make this right you know. I don't have time. I'll come back later. It's really no big deal.
Loosing the argument he turned off the car and quickly headed back in the store. He waited his turn again as he glanced at his watch. He handed the young girl his receipt and said, "I owe you two dollars."
When he made eye contact he noticed two small tears slowly making their way down the girl's face. "I know who you are. I watch you on TV every week. I knew if you didn't come back to make this right that I could not trust anything you say. My life is a mess and I need help from someone I can trust to tell me the truth."
We are being watched everyday. Guard your integrity for everything you're worth.
I love you guys. Don
