EDICCIMAD - What Does it Mean?
By: Committee Co-Chair Allen Eldridge
The Military Community Affairs Committee of the Camden County Chamber of Commerce is pleased to present EDICCIMAD (Every Day In Camden County Is Military Appreciation Day) in concert with the local chapter of the Navy League and the Camden Partnership. This campaign has been advertised throughout the local media in letters to the editor, print advertisement, and radio and television advertisement. Our goal is for local businesses to show appreciation for our Military personnel for patronizing their establishments by whatever means they deem appropriate.
The MCA is working on finalizing our Individual Augmentee partnership program where local business leaders work with the IA and his/her family during the deployment period. We have been working closely with Stephanie Clark of Fleet and Family Services at Kings Bay Naval Submarine Base to get our message out to local civic clubs in hopes of building interest. Our next presentation will take place at the Camden County Rotary Club on September the 10th at 7:30 am held at Laurel Island Links.
Recently our committee has been receiving more applicants for Service Member of the Month largely through the efforts of our Co-Chair Jimmy Schubert. It is truly amazing the community service that our young military leaders perform. The Chamber takes pleasure in recognizing their accomplishments during our monthly Business After Hours events.
As we progress, I believe we will experience growth and recognition in the areas of Public Relations, and Community Relations.
Anyone interested in serving on the committee can contact the Chamber office at 729-5840 or email us at info@camdenchamber.com. The MCA meets on the last Thursday of every month at 0830 in the Chamber's conference room. |
 Hire Work Ready
Are you in the process of hiring new employees? If so, don't forget to ask your applicants if they are a Georgia Work Ready Certificate holder. If you do and they have a Georgia Work Ready Certificate and then you hire them, you have the ability to defray hiring and training costs.
To help Georgia small businesses defray the cost of on-the-job training, the Governor's Office of Workforce Development (GOWD) and the Georgia Chamber of Commerce launched a new outreach program called Hire Work Ready. Utilizing American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) support, the program is designed to provide funding to small businesses - those employing 50 or fewer - that hire Work Ready Certified people to assist with costs associated with hiring and training new workers.
Benefits of Hire Work Ready include:
-
Supporting Georgia's small businesses by defraying hiring and training costs
-
Creating demand among job seekers for earning a Work Ready Certificate
-
Showcasing the benefits of hiring Work Ready Certified employees
Small businesses can apply for Hire Work Ready funding without ever leaving their place of business. The two-step process includes an on-line application on the Georgia Work Ready Web site (www.gaworkready.org) and a 30-minute informational conference call. Approved business owners will be provided with information on using Georgia Work Ready in their hiring process and given access to an exclusive database of Work Ready Certified job seekers.
Small businesses will be eligible for $250 per certified Work Ready individual hired up to $1,250. GOWD estimates Hire Work Ready will encourage the hiring of 1,000 Work Ready Certified workers by as many as 400 firms.

You are Invited to Attend the Congressional Luncheon
Camden County was well represented at the Georgia Chamber of Commerce's Congressional Luncheon held in Perry, GA on August 17th. Every year the Chamber sponsors the event and a group of community leaders attend the event representing Camden County. This year's event featured Scott Rasmussen, President and CEO Rasmussen Reports. His presentation was "Behind the Polls: What Voters are Thinking about the Economy and Elections."
Special thanks to Georgia Power for providing the van to shuttle everyone to the event. It was a great opportunity to get to know other community leadership.
