BC Chamber Micro Business Training Pilot Project
Premier Christy Clark announced at the BC Chamber Annual General Meeting last week that the government is funding a pilot project through local Chambers designed to help train micro-business (fewer than 5 employees) owners without post-secondary education. Stay tuned for more information and how to apply for the project.

Aboriginal Workforce Development Webinar
Presented by the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, this free webinar will focus on Aboriginal workforce development, including: How to find and hire Aboriginal workers, best practices for boosting opportunities for Aboriginals in the workplace, and how business can confront the critical issue of inadequate education among Aboriginal workers. Click above to participate in the sixth Skills Survey by the Canadian Chamber of Commerce. This survey is aimed at gathering information on Early Childhood Education Programs.

Premier Christy Clark, along with Margaret MacDiarmid, Minister of Labour, Citizens' Services and Open Government were joined by local families at the Vancouver Aquarium on May 28 to announce that B.C.'s Family Day will take place on the second Monday in February each year, beginning in 2013.

The Northern Rockies Regional Municipality received $61,200 from the BC government to fight invasive plants in the region. The Peace River Regional District received $235,000.

The Immigration Task Force (ITF) released their final report today confirming that BC will need more skilled immigrants to fill labour and skills shortages throughout the province, announced Minister of State for Multiculturalism and ITF Chair John Yap. Click above for the full report.

Join the Northern Rockies Regional Municipality and the Visitor Information Centre to celebrate the history and geography of one of the most beautiful and unique regions in British Columbia and Canada during Tourism Week.  

 

Calendar of Activities

Sunday, June 3 - 2:00 pm

Be a tourist in your own town by attending a Welcome Visitor presentation at the Visitor Centre! This is a half-hour presentation exploring the dynamic history of Fort Nelson and the pristine wilderness encompassing the Northern Rockies.

Wednesday, June 6 - 10 am to 4 pm

Join us for Councillor to Counselor Day at the Visitor Information Centre! Regional Councillors will join our Tourism Counselors in presenting travel information to travelers and locals. Stop by and chat with our guest councillors and test their knowledge of the area!

Saturday, June 9 - 2:00 pm

Stop by the Visitor Centre for cake and punch, local artwork and crafts, and great conversation about the area with locals and tourists alike.

As part of the BC Jobs Plan and Work BC, JobFest will be in Fort Nelson on June 1 from 2-8pm. This is a rock concert-themed event for young job-seekers. Stop by the West parking lot at the Visitor Centre for live music and career information. 

 

 NEAT's next monthly Recycling Roundup is June 2, from 8am-1pm at Overwaitea. Click here for a list of accepted items. 

 

The Canadian Cancer Society's Relay for Life will be June 2 at Art Fraser Memorial Park, from 11am-11pm. Click here for more information. 

 

Fort Nelson First Nation and Whitecrow Village have partnered to present a series of sessions on Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder. Community and Chamber members are invited to attend a business-specific presentation on June 12 from 10:30-Noon in the Raven Room at Town Hall.
