Make 2012 YOUR year for Fiscal Fitness!

Greetings!

valentine pig So much going on this month! If there is one day of the year we ladies don't dare touch the remote, it's Super Bowl Sunday. But Valentine's Day is a good trade to make up for all of that TV time, don't you think? No matter what you are doing, though, we are deep in the heart of "taxes" at Fox & Company CPA's for a couple of months. In the meantime, since we are chained to our desks, can't we have just a teensy bit of winter weather?

Fund Find(s) of the Month: Small Fish, Big Pond

Dollar on nook We've been looking at large-cap funds for the past few months but that doesn't mean we've been ignoring their "baby" sisters and brothers, the small- and mid-caps. Au contrair, we've been keeping an eye out for bargains for our readers and our clients. This fund might not be a box of chocolates, but I predict it will be around long after Valentine's Day has come and gone. Wrap up a few shares and put a big red bow on top!

Tip of the Month: Eight Money Myths

butterfly

Truth or myth? When you are deciding how to handle your money, it's important to know all options and consider them accordingly. The TV show MythBusters became a favorite of mine when it solved a rather huge argument between the Bobfather and me about the dangers of being bitten by Granddaddy long-legs spiders. In honor of the Bobfather graciously taking a smack-down, we'll just nickname this column MothBusters as we turn moths into butterflies.

(Almost) Famous Recipes of the Month: Superbowl Twists

Last month, we were very, very good. Who can argue with carrots? They're so nutritious and delicious, especially when you bake them in a cake. (Oops, I  meant when you eat them raw...) This month, we get to indulge because everyone knows that the SUPERBOWL is perfectly timed to nudge you off that New Year's Resolution wagon (you know which resolution I mean) so that you can have many sinful snacks all afternoon. It's ok - I think Weight Watchers might have said so. On second thought, don't quote me on that.

Our twist on chili is this White Chili dish which I made for The Bobfather recently. He absolutely couldn't get enough of it, it was that good. In fact, you may want to double it for your Superbowl party - it's that good. Ask me: how good is it? It is that good.

After a couple of bowls of It's-That-Good-Chili, you'll want something to soothe your taste buds. I hear chocolate is good for putting out a little fire in your mouth, so it just stands to reason that peanut butter might be, too, so how about this twist on Chocolate Chip Cookies - just stick "Peanut Butter" in front of the name, and you've got this tasty (and uniquely-named) cookie! Best served waaaaaaaarm.

Your February Recommended Resources:

Just because I'm in the mood and just because this newsletter is for Finances, Food, and Fun, and finally because I'm mentally ready to take a break from anything to do with numbers, we're going to focus on your taste buds this month. After you've prepared the above "twists", get creative and take a look at these excellent foodie sites to begin.
My go-to foodie site is one my son, Lee, introduced me to a few years back: AllRecipes.com. I love the reviews, appreciate the custom versions that other cooks post, and use the iPhone app when I'm on the go or don't have my computer in the kitchen!

If you like lots of choices (or want to really get confused), you've got to look up the food blog page at WordPress.com. Personally, I have as much fun reading the creative names of the blogs (Fitty vs Fatty, Restaurant Cannibal, Smitten Kitchen)  as I do reading the actual blogs. The really good blogs are a writer's inspiration, but I can only dream of being so creative.

In Closing...

We were really tickled to have NO mystery link winner in January! For our new readers, that means all of our links in our last newsletter worked just fine. We award a $25 Amazon gift certificate to the first sharp reader who finds a bad link in each month's newsletter. No winner means that we had all of our links in place, but you just never know, so be sure to check out our links in this newsletter. We have a few tricks up our sleeves from time to time!

As I mentioned above, tax season is at full-blown red alert level at our offices and I'd like to put in a little plug for the office where I wear my other hat: We take our clients very seriously around here and respect their wishes. We promise a 7-day turnaround time after final documents are in and take special care to dig out anything that can be used when filing. If you are tired of waiting...and waiting...and waiting to receive a completed tax return each year, give Fox and Company, CPAs a call at 270-247-6087. We listen to and respect your requests, and you'll always know what it's going to cost BEFORE you decide to entrust us with your business. In short,  we promise to do whatever it takes to deserve your attention. If that's a little different from what you typically expect, maybe you should expect more! ...I almost forgot that you can find the guys on YouTube on Paul's channel and our firm channel. (Does anybody recognize that dude with the really bad mustache?)

Hugs, God bless, and have a great February!
