Letter From the President, Brian Rosenthal
  brian rosenrhal
Dear Raleigh Tennis Enthusiasts,

I hope everyone is getting excited for Fall weather, tournaments and USTA League Tennis. Our Local League Coordinators are working very hard to ensure the best opportunities for our juniors, adults, and senior league participants this season.

Various RTA members have reached out to local schools & youth camps this Spring & Summer to promote the USTA Quickstart method to children whom have had minimal exposure to tennis. The USTA and many CTA's are doing their best to find a way to showcase tennis as a main stream sport to children. If you have any ideas or thoughts on how to reach out to local Raleigh area schools, youth programs, etc. Please contact us with your feedback!

Also, I would like to thank the many volunteers who have helped us with the various tournaments the City (David Bell and staff) has placed together for juniors and adults. Without volunteers it is very difficult for any CTA to be successful! We encourage you to e-mail us if you have the time and strong desire to help tennis grow in Raleigh. We would love to hear from you very soon!

Enjoy some fun tennis, cooler weather, and the many opportunities the City of Raleigh has to offer this Fall!

Sincerely,

Brian Rosenthal
President Raleigh Tennis Association
USTA Leagues

USTA Adult Fall Combo League

The Adult Fall Combo is one of the fastest growing adult programs in the USTA's Southern Section. This program features Men's and Women's teams playing 3 doubles matches. The doubles teams use a combined NTRP rating that does not exceed the level on which they are playing. The unique format is what makes the COMBO DOUBLES league so fun! It also offers the chance to play with different people and to make new friends.  More info...

Raleigh Pro League

This was the inaugural season of the Raleigh Pro League featuring the area's top players and teaching pros competing for prize money. Three teams battled their way through the schedule culminating with the finals last Friday night at North Hills Club.  Team Laverick, represented by Shane Wells, Josh Franceschina, John Haywood, Katrina Barnes, Nina Caruana, and Cathy Lovett narrowly escaped with a 2- 1 win taking down Team VisionPoint's David Marquina, Sean Ferreira, Cesar Vargas, Kelly Parker, Lynn Thomas and Megan
Dunagin.  It was an exciting format featuring men's and women's doubles and mixed doubles.

The league rotated venues each week playing at host clubs North Hills Club, Raleigh Racquet and TPC Wakefield.  2011 looks to have another great season with the ample fan and sponsor support that the players and league received.

Thanks to all of those fans that came out and made it so successful!

Adopt a School Program

Help bring tennis to school children in your neighborhood - adopt your local elementary school. Several local public elementary schools need USTA membership to provide them with valuable curriculum help for tennis as a part of PE classes. You simply register the school and pay the $35 membership fee; an act that will yield enormous benefits for the school and your community.

RTA is providing QuickStart tennis equipment to public elementary schools bringing tennis into the PE curriculum. This program will reach over 15,000 children this year, PE teachers will attend an In-Service training day and an excellent instructional guide, USTA Tennis Curriculum, will be provided by USTA to all member schools. Public schools in our area are not USTA members, and PE budgets are so low that the $35 membership is a real barrier. Schools need memberships this month to receive the curriculum guide at the training. Please consider adopting a school and register them as a USTA organizational member. The process is virtually the same as for an individual membership; you simply need some information on the school and the PE teacher. contact Susan@raleightennis.com to adopt a school today!

Tennis Community Update
Susan Flanagan, Community Coordinator

Summer just flew by!  We have had exciting season ender's on all levels! On the weekend of July 15th, Raleigh had teams represented at the Junior State Championships in Cary, NC. In addition, the Adult teams of Ladies and Men were both represented at the State Championships in Pinehurst, NC. The ladies team at 3.5 level won the Championships and represented our area in Mobile Alabama this last week. Congratulations to all who attended those events!

We have added an additional two more schools to our QuickStart Elementary School programs, with the RTA's QuickStart Loaner Equipment program.  Any school who is interested in adding QuickStart to their curriculum, please contact me and I will add you to the list of schools sharing equipment.
Personal tax free donations are always appreciated for QuickStart programs and equipment. This money can be applied to any programs for QuickStart tennis such as Schools, Neighborhoods, YMCA's or wherever you would like to start a program.

We will host on going volunteer committee meetings and have over  20 dedicated volunteers that have joined our team to help play an active role in our tennis community.   We discuss upcoming events such as,  Adult Leagues and Socials, Junior Team Tennis, QuickStart School events, and more. If you would like to join our volunteer group, please contact me for more information, we would love to have you!

See you on the Courts!
