Happy holidays!
As I reflect on our work at the end of this decade of the still-new century, I am humbled by the potential of this generation of girls to make an impact in the world. They are the generation who will grow up to staff the International Space Station and explore Mars. They are the generation that will discover and understand as-yet-unknown specimens of life in the deep oceans and other extreme environments. They are the generation that will create and implement the technical and social solutions to the world's current shortages in energy, water, food and education. They are the generation who will vote as citizens and leaders about how and whether these and other pursuits are worthwhile.
But first, they need to be excited about science and engineering and their innate curiosity need to be nurtured. And that's what we do well here at Science Club for Girls. We know most of you were not able to attend our year-end Science Fests, so we want to share this two-minute video with you. And we hope you will be able and willing to make a donation to support our work.

None of our accomplishments would have been possible without our many mentor-scientists who devote their time and talents to our girls.
 Mentor training: Spring 2010
Our heartfelt thanks for making 2010 a wonderful year for SCFG and our girls.
2010 HIGHLIGHTS Read our blog post for details and additional items
Receiving the 2010 MetLife Afterschool Innovator Award
This fall, 445 girls experienced oodles of a-ha moments in 44 science clubs at 14 sites in 5 cities (in the U.S.). 68 teen Junior Mentors helped facilitate hands-on explorations.
We piloted three new curricula for our middle school girls this fall, including one on Sports Nutrition, created and taught by Wellesley professor Connie Bauman and her class.
We've gone international! 90 girls from the village of Pokuase, Ghana participated in teacher-led Science Clubs earlier this spring.
More than 450 girls, families and guests came together for our first, all-site showcase and celebration, Everybody LOVES Science, on May 13th.
Our participants are showing the world that science and engineering ARE for everyone. - Twelve alumnae who graduated from high school this past spring are finishing their first semester of college at MIT, Northeastern, Emmanuel, Vassar etc and studying environmental science, neurobiology, physical therapy and more.
- A group of 3rd/4th grade girls were filmed testing their water bottle rockets for WGBH's Arthur Buster Spaces Out & The Long Road Home". The episode will be aired on April 28, 2011. Stay tuned!

My favorite quote this year is from an 8th grade teen, who wrote:
"I didn't think I had the brains to become a scientist but over the last few semesters, I learned it doesn't matter what your race, age, or appearance is. It's about having friends and peers to encourage you through your goal. Science Club for Girls made me realize that I have the power and the knowledge to become a scientist."
May you find strength in your network and may your goals become reality in the new year.
