Greetings!

For the first time since 1991, on September 22nd, the harvest moon shed light on the beginning of the fall and what a beautiful sight it was.

Often when the fall begins to settle in, we experience a state of sadness or mourning for the bright light and care free days of summer. Seasonal mood swings come into full effect as most of us don't know how to handle the change. It is a great time to look at your relationship to change. Do you feel anxiety? Frustration? Confusion?  Or disappointment? Remember folks, change is the only constant in life so learning to adapt to it is a valuable skill to learn.

One of my mentors Ana Forrest helped me to realize that the change of seasons, is where we are empowered to let go of whatever or whoever is weighing us down, does not belong to us, is feeding off of or contaminating our energy, or simply needs to decompose in our lives because it is weighing us down! It is a time for us to look within and do some serious releasing around the major issues that keep us from growing into our wiser selves. This may revolve around your relationship to money, your career or even relationships with family members, friends, partners and yourself. This is great time to re-evaluate your relationship to food as well since the harvest brings an abundance of new fresh seasonal local foods.

So instead of looking at this time with complete mourning or anxiety, can you take a moment and ask yourself:

 - Are you willing ot look at the situation differently?

-How often do you decide your own fate before you even get out of bed?

Be open to the next moment and instead of repeating your limiting habits and waiting for all the other factors to change, start with changing your reaction to the scenario you are in. It's easier, more direct and it actually works.

Expecting to change a person or situation so that you can control it breeds suffering.

Take a moment to choose the wiser path.

Did you know that nutritionists recommend waiting anywhere between 15-45 minutes between eating and drinking?

Why?

Our stomach, much like the rest of our body is remarkably intelligent. It knows what types and amounts of food are in the stomach so that it can release the right amounts of gastric acid to aid digestion.

Here's the catch: if we put liquid substances in while eating foods it causes the gastric acids to become diluted and delays digestion. Thus,  the water component is absorbed through the walls of the stomach before the digestive acid gets a chance to break the food down. When this happens, the concentrated substances that are left become even thicker than the food in the stomach.

Putting anything into your stomach that disrupts digestion is not going to feel good.

Next time you eat, try this!

Wait approximately 15 minutes after eating veggies and at least 30-45 minutes after eating an animal product (meats, cheeses, eggs, etc.). Notice how you feel in comparison to other times you mixed liquids and foods together. Be as consious as you can but know it is a habit that takes time to cultivate. You'll be aiding your stomach in its natural digestive process and feel a lot less bloated!
