Calling All Artists!
You may have noticed that we're currently giving our offices, located in the historic Calkins Farmhouse, a gentle freshening-up. Thanks to a several dedicated volunteers, we've been able to create a welcoming reception area and a spiffy new copy room.
And now we need YOUR art! If you're a local artist who would like to either donate or loan a work(s) of art to display as part of a "Farm and Food" art series at the Intervale Center, we'd love to talk to you. Please call or e-mail Joyce Cellars at (802) 660-0440 x101 or joyce@intervale.org for further information.
If you'd like to make a gift to offset framing costs, click here to donate online.

Self-Composed
Photographs by Lisa Schamberg
Inspired by her visits to Intervale Compost, local artist Lisa Schamberg began to take pictures of the vegetable
and fruit trimmings in the triangular holder in her kitchen sink over 20 years ago.
Now on display at Burlington cafe Viva Espresso, the works depict the beauty of a scatter of leaves, a pile of onion peels, a lone banana skin. Prints are $30 each; exhibition runs through January 31. See Lisa's website for more details.

Intervale Artifacts
Photographs by Don Dickson
More than 20 abandoned cars, trucks, and vans lie half-submerged in the soil between the Winooski River and farms in Burlington's Intervale. They're remnants from a time when the land "beyond the tracks" was considered a no-man's land, piled high with trash and refuse--much different from the fertile, vibrant agricultural community that we know today. Hundreds of cars were removed in the 1980s. What remains is a reminder and a lesson for us. Turning junk into art, photographer Don Dickson has captured the mystery and symbolism of these pieces of abandoned human machinery. And we're excited to announce that his work will be on display at the Metropolitan Gallery in Burlington's City Hall from January 29 through March 2, 2010. JOIN US FOR A SPECIAL RECEPTION with Don Dickson and Intervale staff on Wednesday, February 24 from 5-7 p.m. at the Metropolitan Gallery. Space will be limited--please send an e-mail to joyce@intervale.org if you'd like to attend.
