As the weather turns chilly and leaves turn golden brown, we naturally reflect on the "harvest" of memories of this past year. There is much for which to be thankful. In these difficult times, I will always be grateful for the wonderful staff at Nor'east Cleaners, who in spite of some reduced hours and delayed raises, continue to put smiles on customers' faces with their attention to detail and friendly service. Even though the average amount customers spent each visit declined slightly, the total number of customers on our rolls increased. This increase is both an endorsement of our effort and cause for great thanksgiving. 

As an expression of our thankful hearts,
we are involved in two service projects
this fall. First, we are participating in a nationwide effort by hundreds of dry cleaners to support the Breast Cancer Awareness Program. A percentage of the cost of all the pink packaging supplies that you see this month will be donated to breast cancer awareness. Second, via a connection of my daughter's who lives in Kenya, Nor'east Cleaners is helping an American non-profit replace a dilapidated school building there which serves 125 children. Each child's personal history of deprivation and abuse is profound, and the Gentlebells Preparatory School offers an oasis of love, food, education and hope in an otherwise hopeless situation. The new building will serve 200 children, and will open January 2011. Learn more and read the life stories of ten children.
