It
often seems that life is unavoidably complex. Yet Jesus told us to live like
the lilies, not toiling or spinning, and to take no thought for what we might
eat or drink. We can voluntarily simplify our lives, but it takes awareness and
attention. Here are some tips to leave complexity and the stress it can bring
behind you this week - so that you live a simpler existence: Enjoy simple activities like taking a walk, sharing a meal at home, watching a
sunset or being in nature. Be fully present and conscious with family, friends and even strangers. Listen
to what others are telling you with their words and body language. Don't try to
fix other people. Just be with them in appreciation, compassion and love. Reduce clutter in your life. Ask yourself three questions about each of your
physical possessions: Does it provide beauty? Does it have meaning? Is it
useful and does it work? If in doubt, let it go. Keep material objects in
circulation. Become more environmentally aware. Appreciate Mother Earth. Be aware of what you
consume and why you consume it. Recycle. Enjoy non-sexist relationships and be willing to forgo traditional male/female
roles and expectations. Become more aware of what you eat. Consider a movement away from highly
processed foods toward those that are more natural and organic. Develop non-verbal communication skills like eye contact, touching, even
handshaking. Appreciate Silence. Talking can be a distraction. Pray and meditate daily, sending forth a blessing (your highest thought and
feeling) to your world and all those who occupy it.
