Prayer Corner

Calvary Chapel Phoenix (the big on on I-17) were
very gracious to lend us a helping hand testing out the stage lights at Kingswood. They lent us a DMX controller but the neat
thing was their willingness to trust us with this equipment after just meeting
us for a few minutes. We were very impressed with the genuine sense of love in
the Kingdom of God that we experienced from Calvary Phx
and we want to pray that God will continue to richly bless this ministry. Take
a minute and pray right now...

This Coming Sunday, June 13, 2010

Jesus made it very clear
that understanding the parable of the sower and seed is crucial to
understanding all of His parables. Too often people dismiss this parable as
pertaining just to those who need to become followers of Jesus in the first
place but we've learned that it applies to all of us at every point in our
lives no matter how long we've been following the Lord. We need to take great
care as to the condition of the soil in our hearts. Come on out this Sunday as
we study Mark 4: 1 - 20 with a message called "The Soil" (part 2)...See ya
Sunday. Coming up.... June 20: Mark 4: 21 - 29
"Lamp Seed" June 27: Mark 4: 35 - 41
"Who is this?"

A Word of Encouragement
1 Corinthians 9: 24
(NKJV) Do you not know that
those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way
that you may obtain it. Runners have to be utterly
be committed to winning, not just RUNNING, in order to win. Everybody in the race
runs, some for the purpose of challenging themselves, others for exercise and
still others for the camaraderie of being in a race - but only one will win.
Paul is teaching us to ignore the other reasons we might want to run in a foot
race and decide to run to win. A runner who plans to win has to be utterly
focused but also has to pace himself so that his energy continues from
beginning to end. The race we are called to
run is to live a life of obedience to the Lord so that we are a light to the
world about His grace and love. This isn't about challenging ourselves to be
better than the average person. It isn't about being spiritual fit nor is this
race about the enjoyment we might experience running with others of like mind.
The prize is the "upward calling of God in Christ Jesus". When our physical
life is over the Lord will reward us based on how we lived our lives. We need
to be so focused on this upward calling in Christ Jesus that every other
pursuit in our lives is like the blur of faces in the crowd as we run past. In
order to get this focused, we have to decide we're running to win, we have to
keep our eyes on the finish line and we have to pace ourselves (day in and day
out). Let's run to win.

Children's
Ministry
Attention
gentlemen,

As
you know Father's Day is fast approaching - Sunday, June 20th. We in
the children's ministry would love to incorporate any type of talent(s),
interests, ideas you may have into our lesson by extending an initiation to all
men (dads, grandfathers, uncles, brothers, husbands...all men) to come back
and participate with the children for a short length of time. Our virtue of the month is RESPONSIBILITY and our Memory Verse for the month is Luke 16:10a "Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much." For instance, if
we have a church member that is musically inclined and would like to come back
and teach a song, play an instrument, etc to/for the kids that would be awesome.
Some other ideas could be:
Read
a scripture (this can be followed up with helping them to memorize the verse, a
short skit, a question and answer time. And, if you have a favorite Scripture you can read that as well.)
Talk
to them about your hobby (Teach kids how to throw a pitch)
Help
them to make a craft (group or individual, i.e bird feeder, small tool
box)
Color
a picture with them
Bring
in a collection
These
are just a few examples, but you are not limited to these ideas. We would like
to see 2 or more males come back to each classroom if possible. If there are men
that would like to sign up for time in the nursery, just be creative...maybe some
play time if nothing else. You can spend anywhere from 5 minutes to 30 minutes
depending on your wishes. The point is to take time out to appreciate the men in
our lives, and encourage interaction with all members of the church
family.
If
you would like to sign up for this worth-while event, please use the sign-up
sheet at the greeting table and/or talk with Sam Foster this Sunday.

Signing Off
God has opened so many
exciting doors for us as we press forward for the Future Quest Youth Conference. We
just found out this week that the stage lights at Kingswood
school will work. These lights have been inoperative for many years but our
talented IT people (Steve Opgenorth and Jamie Brees) managed to get the system
working. This is a genuine miracle that the school district allowed us to
fiddle with the thing in the first place - but what would have cost us
THOUSANDS of dollars for professional lights, now will cost us just a few
hundred in parts. It's so cool to see these things come together when God is
leading. Keep praying for Future Quest and keep praying that God will show YOU
how He wants you to be involved. We need to recognize that participating in
what is important to God is part of running the race to win. Come and run with
us. "Over and out".... Pastor Pat
