Hospital Tours of Maternity Units
|
I recommend taking a tour of each hospital where your doctor or midwife has privileges to deliver your baby. Call each hospital and ask if they offer a tour of the maternity unit, when it is offered and do you need to reserve a spot. During the tour, take note of such factors as security and what kind, any free breastfeeding assistance if needed (Lactation Consultants), private rooms or possible shared rooms, friendly staff and overall appearance of unit. Which place did you like best? Take a tour of all places then you decide! Then go register!
Boca Raton Community Hospital Toppel Family Place 800 Meadows Road Boca Raton, FL 33486 561-95-Learn or 561-955-3276 Offered each Wednesday night at 6pm or each Saturday morning at 10am. No reservations required. Come to Maternity Lobby. Call for more information.
West Boca Medical Center Birthcare Pavilion 21644 State Road 7 Boca Raton, FL 33428 1-877-22-Tenet or 1-877-228-3638 Offered Monday night at 5:30pm and Friday/Saturday mornings at 10am. Must call to reserve a place.
Bethesda Memorial Hospital 28155 South Seacrest Blvd. Boynton Beach, FL 33435 Pre-registration is required for tour. Must call the Bethesda Baby Line at 561-369-2229 to reserve a place.

November/ December 2009

Hello Everyone!
Welcome to the NOVEMBER DECEMBER 2009 Diane Ellen Newsletter!
Okay...so I know I am a little late. To be very honest...I've been super busy! As usual, I have been dabbling in lots of new and exciting things! (most are still a secret at this time...to be continued...)
I have received some feedback from some of the readers, and with that in mind, have restructured the newsletter a little.
- I will no longer be wishing the individual birthday boys and girls "Happy Birthday". Please know, I wish you all Happy Birthdays!!! (I apologize to the 3 children I missed in the October newsletter as well. Ah, the first signs I'm getting old...okay...maybe not the first signs!)
- You want more information that pertains to all moms & dads and more listings on the "Diane Ellen's List". So...thank you for your feedback. I want this newsletter to be informative, help moms & dads reach out to one another, learn, support, and share knowledge with one another.
- For now, the newsletters will be about every 2 months.
So this is our HOLIDAY issue. For the first time, in a long time, I will not be sending out Holiday greeting cards (gotta love the economy!). But, from the bottom of my heart,
I WISH EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU A HAPPY, HEALTHY, PEACEFUL HOLIDAY SEASON! I am so appreciative to have gotten the chance to meet most of you (some I've never met). Without each and every one of you, who would "Nurse Diane" be???
I look forward to sharing more important facts, recalls, hints, laughs, photos, contact information, and myself with you again in 2010.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
SEE YOU NEXT YEAR!
P.S. Keep in touch with me during the month on Facebook! Just "ask me to be your friend!" or Blog Me by going to http://nursedianeellen.blogspot.com

Biggest Children's Recalls of 2009!
#1: Largest Crib Recall Ever: Stork Craft CribsRecall of more than 2.1 million Stork Craft drop-side cribs, including about 147,000 Stork Craft drop-side cribs with the Fisher-Price logo. The bodies of infants and toddlers can become entrapped in the space which can lead to suffocation. Complete detachment of the drop-side can lead to falls from the crib.

Testimonial!
~ FROM A NEW MOM WHO LABORED IN THE WATER TUB!
"Midway through my pregnancy, my husband and I started talking about natural childbirth, the use of a labor coach, and alternative methods of L&D. I spoke at length with Diane and my OB about laboring in a tub* and was thrilled when BRCH approved the use of tubs to labor in. On September 17th my water broke. Within about 1/2 hour of arriving at the hospital, Diane was there filling up the water tub for me. The contractions started coming closer and I was anxious to get into the tub. I felt INSTANT relief from the contractions due to the warmth of the water but more importantly the weight of my body being reduced. The contractions became more intense and with the tub I was able to move about freely and get in various positions to ease the discomfort and pain. I labored for a total of 3 hours in the tub. It really prepared me for active labor, where I moved to the bed, the ball, and back again. 8 hours and 55 minutes in total and we had our beautiful daughter Greta. I was able to stick to my birth plan which included using the tub, no epidural, and a completely drug free childbirth. Thank you, Diane, for all the support, the laughs, and advocacy of doing what YOU WANT during childbirth!" ~ Lisa Knierim
(PS: The morning after Lisa delivered, I went and checked up on her. I had one question for her: If you had to do it all over again...would you do it all again? Would you still want to labor in the tub or get the epidural? Lisa's answer? Absolutely-the tub! I was just checking Lisa...hehe...)
To Lisa & Adam on beautiful baby girl...
Greta Josephine Knierim! (pictured above)
Born September 17th, 2009 at 11:49pm Weight: 7lbs. 14oz. Length: 19" long
Thank you for taking the time to write your very informative testimonial. Thank you for allowing me to be apart of your labor and for sharing your story with all of us. I am so glad that everything worked out the way you wished!
